Just finished book 5 and damn he likes to drop bombs in the epilogue

I thought books 3 & 4 were solid but weren't as good as the start of the series, so I was a little worried the series had hit its heights too early. But books 5-7 were all bangers. 5 is probably still my favorite so far, but 6 & 7 are both right up there with it.

the only one i struggled to get through was the train one (i think that's pretty universal,) but he's pretty gripping start to finish for every book.

Yeah, 5 is probably my favorite, but 6 would be neck and neck with it. I need to reread 7 again soon before 8 comes out, I enjoyed it a good bit but not nearly as much as the 2 before it. I think it was more of an expectations thing between the previous two books being awesome and me looking forward to that level for so long.

I'm almost halfway through book 7 and so far it's a bit of a drop off from books 5 and 6. I don't dislike it by any means but it's just some forgettable fights and not very good dialogue and not as much comedy. It very well might pick up and I'm expecting it to, but as of now, it would be one of my least favorite.

It might be because I've grown to love Samatha's character so much that not having much of her so far has caused a dip. I love her character so much

I love the humor in the series. It is genuinely hilarious. I gave up after the third book because the core ‘descend, fight, loot, level up’ structure repeats in every installment. The plots change, but the experience never really does, and for me, it got tedious.

Yeah, I think this was most of my issue. There was a significant drop off in humor from books 5 and 6, both of those books were hilarious. And there wasn't much memorable about it, which was the opposite of what I was expecting for that level of the game with all the build up.

The cook book isn’t the same book that would get you put on an FBI watchlist. It’s the Dungeon Crawlers Anarchist Cookbook,
It’s almost a character unto itself.

You are if you stick with it

Book 1 or 3 depending on personal preference are usually ranked as the worst of the 7 (or 8) in the series. Still great. One of the rare series that genuinely gets better as it goes

If you are doing audiobooks, the narrator has acknowledged that he hates his Carl voice in book 1 and has not listened to it since. He said it was a too over the top caricature of Patrick Warburton. And it is better in book 2 on

I'm about to finish my filler book (Jack Reacher 6 "Without Fail") and I'll start book 6 right after

Just finished book 7 haven't had a book series grab me like this in forever. I understand the vibe the author was going for in 7 but it was more geared like an RTS which is a genre I never liked. Hopefully 8 stays strong and he finishes the series with a bang.

Potential Spoilers:

So is Samantha really Apito?

Ah man 8 is going to be the last one?

Im ok with that I guess because dragging it on forever will inevitably end game of thrones style, but man I like this series.

I want an HBO series

Still 10 books. Per MD in February 2026

So what we’re going to do, I think, is — this isn’t set in stone — but I think 9 is the last book, but it’ll be split into two books. So there’s still going to be 10 books total, but I anticipate the last one is going to be pretty wordy. I’m a pretty wordy dude.

I would link the interview but it is Variety and I don't like giving them clicks

Finished 7 yesterday. Good book but near the bottom of the series for me. Not thinking too much about it I'd probably rank them...

Tier 1
1, 5, 6

Tier 2
2, 4

Tier 3
3, 7
