Ah that's right. I forgot GRRM answered that question at a comic convention or something didn't he? And I think he said that Brienne was answering the question swear her sword or hang and because she said sword she in turn was saving Pod

Honestly, in that thread last week with "Who will be King of Westeros", I don't think many of the book readers were shy about saying Jon Snow. As far as they know, Jon has no claim, as may be one of the last men in the realm to claim such a title. They know we know something about Jon that they don't.

But we don't know what that battle was over. They still could have been fighting the good fight

Maybe it's just me, but when I see blue eyed Ice monsters riding dead horses that are killing people and turning them into zombies, I assume they're bad.
But hey, I'm old school like that

Found this regarding GRRM answering questions about Pod and Brienne
george confirmed that the word brienne screamed was “sword”; lady stoneheart gave brienne the choice of either swearing her sword to her or being hung, saying “sword or noose”, and as brienne was being hung she screamed “sword”
the questions moved on for some time, but then a girl asked “well what about podrick payne? he was getting hung with brienne!” and george confirmed that brienne had made the decision to swear her sword to stoneheart in order to save the innocent podrick payne from the noose

Brienne screamed a word
the word was "sword" and I think that's been confirmed.
i do remember this....but vaguely. i must have been skimming through these Brienne chapters starting the second him (her, i mean) and Pod went off wandering to God knows where meeting Nimble Dick, Swift Sausage, and Pattering Penis...

Interesting things that we know: -It appears that only men of the night's watch, or their sacrificed baby boys, can become others.
Are we watching/reading the same thing? Where do you get this?

Based on what?

And, to throw a wrench in the White Walker numerology, there were actually 14 White Walkers present in the final scene, the 13 that were waiting and the one that brought the baby. BUT, the thirteen did all seem to be wearing black cloaks

Martin has called the Others "elegant" - hardly a term I'd associate with evil.
Have you read The Ice Dragon? It is unrelated insofar as plot, but it does describe creatures very vulnerable to heat...The warmth from the touch of a finger causes damage and even death to Ice Lizards...i think this applies to Others as well, and they exude some kind of heat repellent as a defense mechanism (remember the concept of dragon - fear from Weiss & Hickman?) - they can't survive heat.
We've heard tales and legends about them attacking humans south of the Wall...about a thousand years ago...even the histories written by Maesters have been found to be in error (by Sam), yet none have been spotted inside the Wall...only human attacks happened at or beyond it. Could be deemed defensive.
I don't consider saving a freezing baby that's been abandoned in the woods, then arming it with whatever instant evolution necessary to survive without heat, an evil act. They haven't stolen anything.
They ride dead animals because the heat from live ones would kill them.
Why are they monsters again?

13 in the picture plus the one that dropped the kid off is what he said

Ok, because speculation isn't rampant enough, why do y'all think that they only take boys? Is it a WW thing or did Craster just want more, er, wives? They lead us to believe that the Walkers only want boys.

Ahh ok. I assumed the one that brought the baby was just an Other soldier and not necessarily one in the ceremony

The Night's Watch is men only, except for that one girl & that ended badly.

What if all those things in cloaks look just like the guy we are calling the Nights King? What if they're all the same?
