NK definitely is not the same thing as The Great Other. The issue is that they supposedly overthrew him and "slayed the demon", implying that they killed his white walker bride. So maybe there is potential that the female other only reincarnates every few thousand years and is the real bad arse.
I think its more likely that NK is just a title, rather than this being Bran Stark the original NK. I don't see them killing his wife and letting him go. He not only broke his vows and deserted his post but also was sacrificing to the others. Which brings me back to confusion, because apparently the night's king was sacrificing babies just like craster. Yet if what we saw was the night's king, then he is no longer human, and we have no idea how this transformation took place.
Another thing is now with the NK being a stark and obviously an other, it brings new meaning to the Starks being the "Kings of Winter". We have Jon who has just died. Smoke rose from his wound, heat leaving the body. Paraphrasing, all he felt was cold. Dany's third love, who many expect to be Jon, is described as being cold. Combine this with the theory many people are pushing of the other 12 WW's being Lord Commanders. Is our boy Jon about to get resurrected as an other? I would hope not, but its not outside the realm of possibility.

Because of the reveal last night from the show I would say that this is a strong possibility and probably likely to be what happens.
I have to do more research but it may even have paved the way or hinted at Jon becoming the Great Other

Then that would just kill all the Targaryen bloodlines theory.
I doubt any character that we follow becomes a WW.
Also seven book series.
Five books down and we know nothing of the obvious main villains in the story. I assume they are going to have to breach the wall or at least attack it hard.

We don't know if R'hllor or the Great Other is the villain based off of last nights episode. So Jon becoming the Great Other is neither a good or bad thing.
And it doesn't necessarily kill the Targ bloodlines. Maybe Jon becomes the Great Other then leads a white walker army and rules Westeros? Which is a theory I have held on to for a long time. Jon and the Others vs Dany and her dragons

there was so much made about how Robb ended up with Jeyne, the possibility that she was pregnant, etc. There's a Tyrion chapter and Cat chapter back to back in ASOS that pretty much tells us that Tywin was behind Jeyne and Robb and that Jeyne's mother had her on birth control to keep her from getting pregnant with Robb's heir. Pretty damn clever on Tywin's part
I would have bet my life that Tywin was behind that. Then the show aired their version of the Red Wedding. And I guess they are telling us we were wrong.

The night's king is a Stark. Brans great great ...... great grandfather. He and Bran will conquer Westeros together.
I wonder if Bloodraven knows this and is luring Bran to the cave and TCOTF in order to prevent this due to some other agenda?
Will it end up being Bloodraven vs. The Night's King in a battle for Bran?

See, I hate that because I like Jon. But if his army is some undead winter demons, then frick him.

Can they bring people back from the dead? Or just convert the living? Maybe he is laying there dying and is then transformed to save him.

I think the red woman is going to bring him back. The lord of light will grant her that power and Jon snow is the Chosen one.
He will marry is half sister and rule Westeros and Essos in a larger united Kingdom.

The dead turn into Wights, the living into WW I guess.
I'm done with this whole series if Jon becomes a WW.

So thoughts on the shows deviations being spoilers for what to expect in later books?
Would they tip their hand on how to expect the books to end? They've already done a lot of foreshadowing for the hodors so they can surmise what's about to happen...

Wanted to respond to something in the Middle ground thread but I don't wanna spoil future events for anybody so I'll post it here.
I agree about not wanting the show to become an entirely different entity from the books.
That was another problem I had about Jon's story last night. His offer to be legitimized by Stannis later on either won't happen on the show or it makes it a very easy decision for show Jon snow because he knows it wouldn't be legit. And that's a big variation from the books.
I enjoy the show a lot. But I don't trust D&D fully and that's probably because of Peter Jackson and his shite show adaptation of LotR movies. And I've read before where GRRM has warned D&D about some of the characters they've killed/not killed as they may become big characters later on.

I have a weird feeling that D&D want to beat GRRM to the finish and that sucks for everybody. Especially GRRM who has worked on this for 20+ yrs and is his own creation

Bet the white walkers turn out to be the good guys

Yup. Wouldn't surprise me if we're able to piece together what's going to happen in later books and how this ultimately will end from watching the show
Of course GRRM could always change it up in the books

Either Mel, Val, or Bran/Bloodraven will bring him back. Or some combination of the 3.

Do you mean his Aunt Dany, or his cousin Sansa?? Jon's technical half-sister, Rhaenys, is dead.

No one bit on my Why does Dany need Westeros when she can have the richer Essos, either. Sometimes it's hard to get discussion going where you want it, but I'll bite.
I think that the only spoiler was a minor one. We know now what the White Walkers do with the babies. Not really major as there was a part where a Craster wife said "the babies are taken by their brothers" these kind of things don't stick to the show watcher. So they have to spell it out better. Plus they need to be reminded that there is a greater enemy at all times.
I doubt we get any real major spoilers. The bitching by the Maesters is on league with the bitching from the Hodors concerning a correction posted by a reader in their thread.
It's the deviation of Bran's story that I don't like and the implications it will have in later parts.

good is relative.
So possibly the White Walkers and the COTF were the "good" guys and the first men were the "bad" guys, but I can't see it.
If the Others are good, then why does a 60 story 300 mile long wall separate them?
