What's interesting to me about the Night's King story is that it certainly implies that the Others are more then what we take them to be.
Absolutely. If this "pale maiden" or whoever she is is in fact undead (or the CH Halfbreed), then they're sentient and have some sort of purpose or plan.

I've thought about starting a thread for everyone's idea for the worst possible ending. Mine would be Jon Snow is the sole survivor after the War with the Others. The last thing he is told by Arya is to "go North." He pushes through to the Land of Always Winter and sees Han Solo cutting open a Tauntaun and shoving Luke Skywalker inside.

Which brings me to my next question/theory. I wonder if the Others are as bad as they've been portrayed? Obviously the wights are a rather creepy faction. But it makes me wonder with the way Melisandre and her "Red God" operates whether they're the ones Westeros should be worried about or it's all a patsy.

Dead serious....that would be the greatest ending of all time. I don't think I'd ever stop laughing. Bravo on that one.

Does it say where the God's Eye island is? Could that be the home of the crannogmen?

Yeah R'hllor sounds like a douche. Those priests all burning people alive? Bunch of sick people if you ask me. I'd rather become a zombie than get burned alive.

I just assumed that was the island by Harrenhall with all of the Weirwoods. Did I misunderstand that?

I don't know if its been addressed in the endless previous pages (I'm sure it was), but do y'all think the "alchemist" is Jaqen H'ghar?

well Bran the Builder had the wall built to keep the others away. So I thought they were the worst.

At least the followers of R'hollor are human.
The Others seem to be completely devoid of any emotion than to end life.
Sort of the Daleks of ASoIaF...

The wights do. But if we are to believe the Night King's tale, he pursued and married an Other.
There's also a GRRM interview floating around out there (on Westeros.org I believe) where he says the Others aren't just killing/consuming machines. I think he described them as almost faerie like.

Well we just talked about specific situations in which they seem to be carrying out some type of agenda.

Shelly,
In stead of being one fo the 79 deserters, CH could be old lord Ryswell, sharing his son's watch, which goes on forever. Waitting for the wall to thaw and release his son so they can fulfill his vow together.

Could CH be one of the 79 sentinels? He died long ago and was in the NW. The NW members that CH killed were probably the ones who killed Mormont, so CH would still be "faithful" to the NW.

Ryswell is not a Stark and therefore not CH
