On Friday, Texas legend Vince Young spilled the beans that Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is planning on redshirting Arch Manning instead of playing him right away in the 2023 season...
quote:

“I really feel like Arch has a great opportunity. One of the things that I’m hearing is that he is going to redshirt," he told ESPN's Keyshawn Johnson on First Take, via On3. "That’s going to help out a lot, so you can understand how to travel with the team. Get the feel of the fans. The University,” stated Young. “So, when you have those types of things and you take a year off like when I played with Coach [Mack] Brown, I redshirted. And I feel like that redshirt year helped me understand how to be a quarterback at the University of Texas. And then what you go through. Traveling and things like that.

“So, if he does that, I really feel like it’s going to be good for him to sit back, and kind of learn and also get familiar with the offense and stuff like that. Hopefully, if he does that, I think that’s going to help him for the future.”

I thought it was against NCAA rules for someone with a university speaking on specific recruits until after signing day?

Will Texas play Lafayette Christian when Arch is there?

As if a Manning (of all the possible last names) won't have assimilated this sort of stuff from his uncles.

Come on, Vince Young, get real.

I don't get redshirt in high profile situations like this. If he's not good enough to go pro after 3 years someone else is going to pass him up on the depth chart. Just start him day 1 and get 3 years out of him instead of two.

He just told you the benefits of red shirting.

He'd still get to play 4 games and redshirt, so its not the same anymore. He could play lights out and cement his spot for the future (or present when UT does what UT does every season)

That gives him plenty of time to get his MS.
