A reliable source has told me that Les Miles did indeed receive an offer from Michigan last night, but it was not good enough to leave Baton Rouge for Ann Arbor. This would contradict reports that Michigan was not really interested in Miles or that Michigan did not make an offer to him.

Now that we have that behind us, the only question remains: Will Les replace Gary Crowton?

Interesting, the Michigan guys were off on every prediction they made and not good to hear they were wrong about this too.

I am glad Les at least considered the offer. He's a good guy and I am disappointed we didn't get him. Looks like he's going to hang with LSU until retirement, and one can not blame him for that.
I think the Hoke choice is a good one. He's energetic and definitely wants to be Michigan HC. That right there gives him a great shot a being successful. Bo came from the MAC conference (Miami of OH), so who knows...

The whole "We didn't make Harbaugh or Miles an offer" charade is just embarrassing to Michigan.

Not only is their AD an idiot, he's a liar.

Clearly they wanted to talk with Harbaugh first, then Miles and would have hired either. But who cares? They got the best coach they could and I'm happy it's worked out for everyone including Hoke. Now get behind Miles even if he wants to keep Crowton. Crowton also has not had a good QB to work with the past 3 years. If we sputter again next year on offense with a healthy Mett then maybe then we look at a new OC. The A&M game proved when our QB plays well Crowton's play calling is as good as any OC.

Oh they asked him if he was interested. Trick is there was never a formal offer. They also respects Miles advice and suggestions for otther spots on threir staff. As far as crowton I heard two different scenarios. One is if we don't hear thunder next week of him stepping down or retiring then he will be here at least one more season to have a shot at a championship. The other is they are waiting until after signing day in case change scares off some offensive recruits. I'm leaning towards to fore mentioned theory.

So, this would be intentionally misleading recruits? Sounds pretty damn shady to me.

The Michigan offer was more than he makes but by a small amount.

Chicken,

I spoke with Detroit Free-Press reporter, who told me Brandon delibertely low-balled the offer to Les because he really didn't want him. I find that hard to believe, but he stands by his sources.

Is it so hard to understand that they offered les considerably less than what he makes, knowing he would not take it!!!

Why does everyone want to feel like Les is actually wanted somewhere else?

I'm shocked anybody else wanted him honestly. I think his only suitor just passed before him.

Those "reports" were stupid. As much as some folks like to think this happens, institutions looking to fork over multiple millions of dollars don't engage in elaborate pure charades in doing so.

Chicken, what is your source? I realize you can't give a name, but is this someone in the Athletic department? Someone high up in TAF? Someone else?

If true, then Michigan's AD deserves to be fired.

does it mean he was low-balled or he just doesn't want to leave LSU? im hoping for the latter

Why? There is a limit to how much any team can (or should) pay. Perhaps Miles was so happy here that his price to go was just too high.

No shame in that.

Makes sense to me.

They didn't fly all the way down here to taste the grass.

They thought they had a shot at him, IMO.

Doesn't make any sense to me why they would low ball him. They supposed to have more money than Gates up there stashed away.

I am surprised Michigan held back after all of that, "We'll do what it takes..." talk.

Miles must be happy @ LSU and told them what it would take to get him, whereupon they said, " :wha: "

Kind of like me with my '68 Chebby. :dude:

I'm glad he's staying!

Why is Michigan so cheap?
Reply149 months

My guess is Michigan in fact made an offer. Something significantly lower than his current salary at LSU and with less money for a staff. Miles, as expected, would refuse it, they claim they tried and hire Hoke (the less popular option) having done their "best" to get a big name.

That is easily quite plausible and I seriously doubt they offered Les near his current LSU salary.

Poor attempt by Michigan to save face.
