Lane Kiffin made headlines this week for his comments about the recruiting issues he faced when he was at Ole Miss.

Former LSU coach Ed Orgeron, who was also head coach at Ole Miss from 2005-'07, was on WWL Radio SportsTalk with Bobby Hebert this week and confirmed Kiffin's assessment:
quote:

"Yea, it was there, no question," Orgeron told WWL's Mike Detillier. "I mean, they had a history there of, you know, racism and Colonel Reb, but you know what, when we got there, the kids that we had were treated good and they had success, but we did face it in recruiting and they still have that stigma, but look, they overcame it. They got some great players. They’ve had success, graduated, went on to the NFL."

"I think that stigma is always going to stay with them," Orgeron continued, "just like other schools have a stigma, but that is definitely there at Ole Miss.”

The topic goes back decades. Ole Piss had to change their identity…..LSU has never had to change Coach O is backing up Lane, not bc they’re friends, but bc they both know it is accurate.

I feel like there's a reason they went to the bear and shark mascot.

If they just had 3 more mascots, they would have a full hand.

LSU is a very diverse school. Ole Miss has one demographic, rich white kids born with silver spoons in their mouths. I’ve had fun visiting there but have wondered how an urban black kid feels fitting in there. Literally, every black person at Ole Miss is on a sports team.

"LSU is a very diverse school"

We are now, but an argument can be made that academic ethos has suffered for diversity sake

Racism is the least of our worries anywhere in America including Louisiana and Mississippi. the fact that it’s still such a strong topic of discussion in 2026 should make us stop and question who is propagating the issue! Check out who the Southern Poverty Law center is bank rolling!

You would think players would be focused on overcoming instead of running from it. Make them want to be like you should be the mantra.

So all the black players Orgeron and Kiffin signed were a bunch of Uncle Toms? “We know Ole Miss has a bad past, but come play for the white head coach to entertain all the white folks in the stands. That will show everyone we are not associated with racism anymore.” Why would Kiffin or Orgeron ever allow themselves to be associated with something like that? This is not a good look for them.

This comes with the territory with CLK, so it is no surprise. He loves drama. He’s good at it, too. It will always keep us in the news cycle. Orgeron just trying to be relevant, though. Sort of sad what he became.

LSU just keeps piling on. I guess if you’re gonna go you go all in. Poor folks in MS don’t know what to do right now.

You realize Orgeron does not work for LSU any longer, correct? He is just affirming what Kiffin stated. Nobody is going all in dweeb.
