I knew Saban was a dick, but Mauck makes him seem like a much bigger dick than I ever imagined. Glad Coach O made him his bitch last year in from of all of the Gumps.

*front...Mauck helped get us our first SEC Championship Game win as a backup, our first NC (and the biggest arse whipping that we've ever put on UF in The Swamp in 2002). I'll always love Mauck.

The man is a robot. He didn’t get to the top by being a nice guy, but that has to suck being such a focus prick all the time. Great story, Matt.

Coach O and Dabo Swinney are two coaches that prove you don't have to be a colossal douche to win championships. He's called Nick Satan for a reason.

Dabo is a pretty big douche in my opinion... clearly a very good college coach for Clemediason, but a douche none the less... in my opinion.

Coach O learned not to be a douche. At ole miss he was a douche lol

He wasn’t hard for his social skills… He was hired to win ballgames. He’s done a shite ton of the latter.

I'm sure you get hard for a lot of guy's social skills.

Believe it or not, saban has mellowed considerably since being at LSU. Age tends to do that.

This is weird. 1. He’s hire to coach football, not socialize. Sure, he could be nicer. But at the end of the day, it is completely irrelevant whether he’s nice or not. 2. Saban’s players love him. This is an outlier. I’m sure he has mellowed over the years so this might be the height of him being an a-hole. He was always pretty great at the summer camps from what I remember. These tales are exaggerated.

No, not even enjoying a moment with your starting QB who helped get your first national championship is weird. You are correct about the bottom line though - coaching/winning - and he is probably the best ever there. I'm sure he has mellowed over time too. For the record, I did meet him once during his LSU days and he was actually very nice. I don't think Mauck was exaggerating though since he was around him every day for a few years (hell, Mauck came to LSU because of Saban recruiting him at Michigan State).

Your name precedes you. This has zero to do with being “nice.” It really has to do with ego. CNS could have had a fantastic career at MSU and a dynasty at LSU. He thought it was strictly his coaching abilities that would propel him to NFL success. He was wrong.

@NPComp Saban won one championship at LSU. His time here was definitely a the start of being considered a national power at the D1 level, but he had no “dynasty” in Tigerland.

It’s sad though. With all the success he’s had, I just never get the impression that Saban is every truly happy, or maybe it’s just nothing gives him satisfaction? I don’t know, but his smiles for the camera always look kind of painful.

He's a high-functioning sociopath. I'm not exaggerating.

That's what happens when your LWD is only 2 inches. You become enraged at the world.

"Napoleon Complex" is a theorized inferiority complex normally attributed to people of short stature. It is characterized by overly-aggressive or domineering social behavior,

Similar to Mauck, Michael Clayton is also a good dude, I can imagine them walking out of the locker room together thinking the exact same thing about that exchange from their coach.

who cares if he's nice or not? He wins- as he is paid to do. He'll be remembered as the winningest coach/greatest college coach in history. Only a woman or effeminate male would worry about his demeanor.

He’s dealing with young men. He doesn’t have to be a cocksucker after winning a national title to his own players.
