Any speculation about LSU defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin making his return to the team was put to bed Thursday with this announcement from the junior lineman.

According to his tweet, Shelvin will be officially opting out of the 2020 College Football season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

It's really hard watching someone make a horrible decision that will cost them a lot of money and potentially ruin their life. I hope Tyler finds the discipline to prove me wrong.

He will be 500# by draft

I wonder if being in a top 5 amateur football program in the world might be good NFL preparation?

If he somehow comes in at 335 at the combine he'll be a 1st rounder. But likely he comes in at 380 and is a 4th rounder.

Even at 335, I don’t see him being a first rounder.

There is no chance he is a first round draft pick regardless of weight. There’s not a lot of production and he wasn’t always on the field. I think he could go anywhere from 5th round undrafted.

Zero chance for first round at any weight. Not with sitting out an entire year after somewhat limited production the year prior. He’ll get drafted, but 4th or 5th round if his weight is under 345. Playing this year is his only shot at a first round grade.

OK, he made (IMO) a very poor business decision. TO DO: Hire a trainer and get on a strict meal plan. Better kill it in the combines or you will be an undrafted free agent.

He could have had this for free by playing football.

Anthony Johnson 2.0. All of the talent in the world, never did anything with it. Won't make it in the NFL, not enough "want to"

335-340 at the combine and he is a legit first round player. You folk have no idea how good he is.

Yes he has potential. However, there are concerns about his work ethic, willing to stay in shape and etc. He will be a late round pick. He doesn’t really have the production at this point to warrant a high round draft pick. I also wouldn’t be shocked if he ultimately is an UDFA.

He was in Clemson's backfield as much as Rashard Lawrence. Look where Rashard is, and Shelvin's better. Best believe agents know this as well and will front him legit money to get ready for the combine. He can be another Siragusa or Gnata.

Yeah, you're right. None of us know how good he is because he never lived up to his potential here. Just when he had the opportunity to shine and get in shape, he put himself first and left LSU behind.

Well good thing he likes fast food because that is more than likely where he will be working in a couple years. More than likely UDFA then gets cut off practice squad for being out of shape and will have to get a real job without a college degree. Good luck .

This is just such a terribly ignorant take.

Well, I saw a recent pic and he passed the eye ball test big time. If ha keeps training, prepares for the combine, and puts up good numbers, he's 1st rounder all day. BUT, with no 2020 tape, his combine (and personal workouts) performance is key.......when you have outstanding tape, they tend to relax the measurables a tad.

I wish him the best, but I think another season would have helped a lot more than opting out. This will hurt more than it helps later down the road. Same thing for Vincent. Chase was the best player in the country at his position last year and will be a top 5 pick and the first WR off the board in next years draft. The same can not be said about Vincent and Shelvin. Again, I wish them the best, but opting out, I think, was a mistake.

All y’all saying he’s a sure fire first rounder are crazy. He’s got the talent but he hasnt done nearly enough to warrant that.. He NEEDS a good combine and maybe gets into the early rounds. I see him as a 4th or 5th rounder that if he can stay healthy will end up being a steal and a really solid player in the league but it’s very hard watching him make this decision when I know if he came back his stock would skyrocket. Wish you all the luck in the world Big T, you were a monster and helped bring home a natty and we are very thankful for that.
