Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
College Football 24/7 writer Chase Goodbread of NFL.com unveiled the best NFL Draft picks of the century from LSU last week. They were:

1. Patrick Peterson, cornerback
Points: 27.5
Drafted by: Cardinals, No. 5 overall pick (Round 1), 2011

2. Odell Beckham, wide receiver
Points: 12.1
Drafted by: Giants, No. 12 overall pick (Round 1), 2014

3. Andrew Whitworth, offensive tackle
Points: 9.6
Drafted by: Bengals, No. 55 overall pick (Round 2), 2006

4. Tyrann Mathieu, safety
Points: 7.8
Drafted by: Cardinals, No. 69 overall pick (Round 3), 2013

5. Kyle Williams, defensive tackle
Points: 7.5
Drafted by: Bills, No. 134 overall pick (Round 5), 2006
quote:

Fourth in the series is LSU, which has produced the fourth-most draft picks of any school this century (101). As one of the schools that has dubbed itself "DB U", it's only fitting that two of LSU's top five picks since 2000 are defensive backs -- Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu -- and the Arizona Cardinals nabbed them both. Peterson has logged twice as many NFL seasons as second-ranked Odell Beckham, so with twice the opportunity to compile accolades, he beat out Beckham for the top spot. Rounding out the top five is DL Kyle Williams, who has provided the Buffalo Bills with an 11-years-and-counting return on a fifth-round investment.

The Formula: MVP (7 points), Offensive/Defensive Player of the Year (6 points), first-team All-Pro selection (5 points), Offensive/Defensive Rookie of the Year (4 points), Pro Bowl selection within first two years of career (3 points), other Pro Bowl selections (1 point). Specialists and fullbacks: For players honored primarily as return specialists or fullbacks, their total points were devalued. Kickers and punters were not included in this exercise.

Really? Of the Century? 1-YA Tittle NFL HOF Member. 2-Jim Taylor NFL HOF Member 3-Steve Van Buren NFL HOF Member. I guess actually being IN the NFL Hall of Fame doesn't really matter in this "all century" list. I'm sure Kyle Williams is higher rated than YA Tittle or Jimmy Taylor. This list is nuts.

Of this century, not the last 100 years. They are only looking at those drafted since 2000. But, if they were looking further back you are spot on.

Faneca was drafted in 98, otherwise he'd be at the top easily.

No doubt. Faulk won multiple Super Bowls with New England and is in their Hall Of Fame! Not to mention, he was one of Belichek's favorites! How could he not make this list. Also, Jarvis Landry looks pretty damn good in Miami!

I agree that Faulk had a great career. Two possible explanations. 1. He was drafted in '99. Maybe the criteria is drafts from 21st century not century as in past 100 yrs. 2. The criteria are based on individual awards, not team awards (3 Super Bowl wins and numerous franchise awards) and longevity (he had a 13 yr career).
