Ole Miss reporter Michael Katz of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal has reported that he has received the term sheet for several Rebels assistants, including running back coach Kevin Smith.

Smith was Lane Kiffin's running back coach for the last three seasons at Ole Miss and at FAU from 2017 to 2019 before following him to Oxford.

It is believed that Kiffin has pursued Smith to join his new staff at LSU, but this latest development could throw a wrench into Kiffin's plans.

If Smith does, in fact, sign a new deal with Ole Miss, it leaves the door open for Frank Wilson to be retained as LSU's running back coach. Kiffin could also go a different route altogether.

Wilson, who is in charge of coaching the Tigers against Houston in the Texas Bowl, said he has had conversations with Kiffin about his future, but they have agreed to figure out the details after the bowl game on Dec. 27

I just love how f'ing dumb some of you so called LSU fans are. Yeah, F Frank, let him go to Texas, let him dominate the Louisiana recruiting landscape from Texas you f'ing dummies. A lot of y'all don't remember the relationship between LSU and NOLA HS Coaches, it wasn't pretty, trust me. If anybody think losing Frank to Texas is no big deal, than put on one of dem ugly arse orange jersey and move your dumb arse to Texas. Frank is as important to Louisiana recruiting as Corey Raymond is to keeping LSU's DBU play and reputation. Kiffin is not going to dominate Louisiana with his Ole Miss transplants, he needs connections to the Boot, you didn't learn anything from BK's first coaching staff? Louisiana is really fricking different.

Honey Badger hire as ST coach would solve that and SLA recruiting. Coaches would soon forget FW.

Man, y'all just don't get it, it's not just Frank being a great recruiter, Louisiana HS Coaches trust Frank to take care of their kids. If Sark hires Frank, LSU will be at a disadvantage when it comes to recruiting the Boot. Why do you think other schools hire folks with connections to the Boot? To get in on the best prospects, I trust Lane is not a stupid man, that why a decision haven't been on Frank yet. Even if Smith join Kiffin staff as RBC, he will find a position for Frank.

I remember when Rafael Furcal signed a term sheet with the Braves and then took it to the Dodgers to get more money from them.

This is not a new term sheet for Kevin Smith. It’s his current terms. He hasn’t signed a new one

This whole post can be summed up as "Current Ole Miss RB coach still in negotiations with Ole Miss." That's it. You're welcome.

It seems like Ole Miss is taking advantage of our charity and using the temporary bowl coaching to steal back the coaches that left. Maybe we shouldn't let them use our coaches to coach their team?

I agree with you that Ole Miss is disrespecting a noble gesture by Kiffin by trying to steal back some of his coaches (like Weiss, Jr. Who didn't take the bait).

This can't hurt our chances of getting Lacy out of the portal.

What is a term sheet?

It is an informal memo documenting the terms of an agreement. First step in negotiating before any due diligence, and last is contracts.

I'm sure Lane Kiffin had a "term sheet"/aka offer from Ole Miss. The Ole Miss lapdog reporters are acting like it is some kind of hint of guys staying. That is utter nonsense!

I don’t care about Kevin Smith, if he stays at Ole Miss but I do care about Frank Wilson. We don’t want to lose him to Texas and giving them a grip with Frank over New Orleans and state of La. Frank Wilson is too valuable to LSU to lose.

No he’s not! Frank sucks as a RB coach and hasn’t developed anyone. Time to trim the fat.

As of the 2025 season, Ole Miss ranks 9th in rushing yards among NCAA teams.

Yeah, why would we want that guy....

This means Frank is staying - as he should.

Is it just me or is ole miss making all tiger fans dreams come true. They give kiffin ultimatum. He chooses LSU, they hire his DC so we turn keep Blake baker (whos better than golding IMO) and now they going to "force" kiffin to keep frank who we want to keep anyway. Keep making great choices ole miss... we love it
