Football Scoop is reporting that Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker has been offered a contract extension and a "significant raise" to remain the head coach of the Spartans.

Tucker has been mentioned as a candidate for the LSU job several times since the school announced on October 17 that they were parting ways with Ed Orgeron after the season.
quote:

Sources with direct knowledge tell FootballScoop that Tucker has an offer effectively in hand from MSU leaders to both extend the length and raise the salary in Tucker's current pact. Tucker, per sources, is considered a prominent candidate at LSU, the 2019 CFP champion that is seeking a new coach after announcing plans to part ways with Ed Orgeron.

Terms of the proposed extension were not disclosed, but two sources told FootballScoop it was expected to provide “a significant raise.”
If Tucker is out of the mix at LSU, then who would you like to see hired as the Tigers next head coach?

I'm guessing every coach out there is hoping their name is tossed about for the job so they can get a nice raise/contract extension from their current school.

Damn :( I do not want jimbo on lsu campus calling lsu plays. Much rather Mel tucker or some other person have yet to hear of yet. Hope jimbo receives a huge extension with 200 million buy out at his school. Hope woody hangs up the idea of going after Jimbo. Need a good one

The Jimbo smoke is only all smoke. Woodward isn't hiring Jimbo because he isn't up to LSU's standards. Meanwhile, Tucker never had a prayer of getting the job.

Well Edward T. Orgeron got the job so never count out Mel.

@microtiger Two of our last three head coaches were potatoes. Tucker would have been a quantum leap upgrade, as any of the names being thrown around will be quantum leap upgrades.

perhaps, but he’s had one good season. He was 7-12 before this year.

I know alt. Didn’t say I want him. If he had another year similar to this one, he’d be a stronger candidate.

This is an easy way to say I want to stay at MSU knowing he was not going to get the LSU job.

If u folks think mel tucker not qualified then nobody is! Not saying he is best candidate but his resume is top notch

"his resume is top notch".... Tucker was 7-12 as a head coach before this year. One good year doesn't indicate a guy is a great coach (Exhibit A: Ed Orgeron, 2019).
