Report: LSU Expected To Hire Cincinnati OC Mike Denbrock

Pete Thamel with Yahoo Sports is reporting that Cincinnati offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock is expected to become LSU's new offensive coordinator under head coach Brian Kelly.

The hiring of Denbrock as offensive coordinator reunites him with Kelly, as the two first worked together in the late 1980s at Grand Valley State. Denbrock also spent seven years on the Notre Dame staff with Kelly, including offensive coordinator in 2014, and he also coached tight ends, wide receivers and worked as the associate head coach.

Denbrock is expected to install and call the same offense that Brian Kelly ran at Notre Dame, which made Denbrock’s familiarity an attractive option. Denbrock has been Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator during Luke Fickell’s entire tenure, and the Bearcats consistently improved over five seasons and entered Friday's College Football Playoff semifinal ranked No. 10 in scoring offense (38.8 ppg).

Thamel also reports that LSU is expected to hire former Louisiana Tech offensive coordinator Joe Sloan to coach the quarterbacks.

Yah but is he any good? I have not seen his work yet. I saw him display his work vs high school teams in the 2021 season and get blown out vs Bama in the semi final. What can the guy do ? Hopefully 100 times better than Peetz, that kid was aweful. The defense coordinator was actually lots better than the offense coordinator at his job. Hope andre Carter and daronte jones land on their feet at some good jobs some where

When he coached against equal talent… He dominated. Kelly is an offensive coach and has had him on his staff in the past so I 100% trust his decision.

People kill me bringing up the Bama game. I don’t believe Cincy has athletes all across the board equal to what LSU puts out there. For a while everyone gave Joe Brady all the credit for 2019 and it’s slowly rolled over to Joe Brady was put on the map thanks to the athletes LSU had running his Off. I guess y’all are saying Peetz is better bc we scored more vs Bama? If so, let’s keep Peetz.

Some people simply do not understand football YMCA and can’t fathom that Cincy the best they could with a bunch of 2 stars and maybe 2 or 3 players on their whole could get and LSU scholarship.

This is a 100% correct statement. If the genius downvoters actually watched the game, the would have seen some really good 3 and 4 wr plays, some under center stuff and a good amount of rpo. Cincy rolled into that game with a bunch of 2 stars and did the best they could.
