Ross Dellenger with Sports Illustrated is reporting that Bo Pelini's contract at LSU will be a three-year deal worth $2.3 million a year.

Former LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda was making $2.5 million a year before leaving for the Baylor job after the National Championship.

Pelini returns to LSU where he was defensive coordinator under Les Miles from 2005-07. He left LSU after the 2008 title game to become the head coach at Nebraska.

Pelini has been the head coach at Youngstown State since 2015.

We spent the entire 2019 season being pleasantly surprised at the team development and success. I am hoping for more if that.

Great payday. He’ll earn it. And the Tigers will be just fine on the defensive side of the ball.

I will be open-minded and hope for the best. We have a safety net, because if Pellini should falter, O won't hesitate to hire a young adviser to help him out with the spread.

I don't know if Bo is an upgrade or a downgrade. What I know is that O has hired very good assistance that he is able to work with and trusts. Everything in Bo's past would indicate he does what he needs to do to put his defenses in position to succeed. To think he has not or would not change with how offenses are working these days vs 13 years ago is pretty short sighted. And to think he and O have not had those conversations is probably off the mark as well.

If I am sitting here in my chair, and the first question I have is how Bo has evolved over the past decade and a half for the spread... So If I am thinking it (and I am just a fan), then I would bet my hard earned monies that Coach O has had those conversations.

I’m wondering if/how much Bo’s D scheme has evolved to stop the spread. Those stats from 05-07 are killer. But bama’s O is a different animal in 2020

Amazing. Just 8 weeks ago many Tiger fans were ready to send Aranda packing. Now, after upgrading the D coordinator position, (yes, upgrading), those same fans are still complaining. I hated to see Aranda go but I think Pelini and a 4-3 will produce better defenses than we’ve had over the past 3 years. Time will tell. Bo loves to blitz, LBs and safeties.

Many LSU fans are not very knowledgable and some are very young who simply don't remember how good the defenses were under Bo Pelini. The man has been successful wherever he has gone. Nebraska was stupid to fire Pelini and Frank Solich before him. Look at them now. Pelini IS AN UPGRADE OVER ARANDA. Good hire.

he had about 1.5 good years at LSU PERIOD then started going south. he is a head case...ask Nebraska. This will buy time for O, but if he does not pay attention, it will damage his career.

The thing I may like the most about this hire is I feel like regardless of our success, if he does well, he will be here for a while... Unlike with Aranda, who we all knew was going to leave at some point and take his chances at being a HC.

Talk all you want about Bo Pelini, but he is an outstanding Defensive mind, and as far as a HC, how much would you like to bet that Husker fans would LOVE to return to 9 and 10 win seasons after the past years since he’s been gone? He never had less than a 9 win season as a head coach. He was far from a failure. Dude knows how to coach and knows how to win.

sounds like you are trying to convince yourself of your claims about how good he is. fans of yougstown state may have a different opinion....and would you be content with 9 win seasons here at LSU under Pelini's 2nd tour of duty?? nevertheless,as weak as your argument is, i hope you are correct. i hope the dude turns out to be a beast....

He was the best DEF coord in the country but wanted to he a HC. Turns out he wasnt the best head coach.. everyone finds their ceiling.. he found his.. now he is ready to do what he knows he is the best at.. let this man eat.. and enjoy the ride.. the College football world is about to remember why he was hired to be the head coach at nebraska.. (because he was the best DC in the country)

he was being figured out by SEC OCs and was starting to allow points, not to mention that he is unstable and rude.

Didn't hear his name come up till LSUs search. It would have been ideal if we could've offered an incentive based contract rather than top 3 money straight up. I do trust O but what if the worst case scenario happens and we realize Bo's defense doesn't work out. Atleast it is only a 3 year deal.

Really don’t understand why we’re paying him Top 3 coordinator money, when he was making under a million/yr at YS? Slap in the face to Slinger who was a big piece of greatest offense ever.

He was also being paid buyout money by Nebraska which recently ended. If he had stayed he would only be making a quarter of a million per season.

They probably had to offer him more to get him to leave his job where he was head coach (even if he was making way less). It's a major pain to uproot your family, so you have to have a pretty good package to motivate you to give up your job and move.

our AD is likely being manipulated by Bo's agent. He is not worth that money at this time.
