My impression of one of the posters here is that he or she believes Drew Brees apology for realizing he was not aware that he was not being sensitive to racial inequality is being interpreted as apologizing for being white. I sense there is some resentment toward Brees admitting to not being aware of some aspects of racial inequality and becoming enlightened about it. I am sure his enlightenment went both ways. He, probably, realized every race expresses racism towards other races, not just white racism against blacks, but, also, black racism against whites, Baptist versus Catholics, etc. All are real. All of the slave owners are dead. Those slave in existence today are slaves of their own minds. Those who are ashamed of the history of slavery and bear some guilt should realize that their guilt should not exist, is not appropriate and it is a barrier to their understanding and embracing diversity. Sure, the wealth created during slavery contributes to inequities, today. That is reality. So, today’s inequality is largely financial class related and requires everyone to help champion. The problem goes beyond class inequality, as well. Those less fortunate are asking for a fair chance without stigmatization. Let’s not forget, many whites and blacks have fore parents with Confederate flags on their tomb stones and most of our genetic make up are more alike than different. History won’t change. Attitudes can change.
Sports bring people together. That is what this site is about. Bash if your heritage says you must. But, education, communication and self awareness makes a better society. Drew Brees could have afforded to never admit his lack of awareness and his value could have, politically, increased. People on both sides may disagree with him. He took his road, the moral high road, because he is a man of faith, a winner and a healer! That is why he is so blessed!
