ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel was outside the Baton Rouge courthouse Thursday as the ongoing eligibility battle involving the SEC, NCAA, and LSU took yet another dramatic turn.

While SEC commissioner Greg Sankey was inside the courthouse testifying in the case, news broke that the SEC had filed a separate federal lawsuit against LSU, head coach Lane Kiffin, and university officials.

Thamel described the scene and the remarkable timing of the lawsuit as "truly surreal."

I might be in the minority but I think the SEC has overplayed their hand by a lot. If Sankey can't tell the judge what a professional athlete is in court today. How are they going to sue LSU for recruiting professional athletes?

Apparently he also didn't read the 5 for 5 rule until yesterday. What a buffoon.

I understand what Lane is fighting for here but year one we had/have so many other things to focus on.

It's a national issue, they just chose to publicize Lane Kiffin. Honestly, I'm fricking tired of the shenanigans. When Les was here it was all about goofy Les, then it was goofy Orgeron. Then it was war on Will Wade x2, then it was Mulkey, then it was Brian Kelly, then it was Lane Kiffin. I'm fricking tired of the bullshite.

I think I'm ready for this to be over. There's no way this has a net positive impact on the team or the program as a whole.

Idk, lately their tone has been in favor of these players and what LSU doing. But i also dont think the players lawyer should've gone on mascona show calling him Greg Stankey, and "retarded" and challenging him the way he did. This all soooo far out of hand its crazy... lets just play ball man

Totally agree. What an embarrassing shite show for LSU 48 hours before kickoff of one of the most highly anticipated seasons. CLK and Verge, your effort was valiant and noted,
but let’s coach up the players we got and go make a playoff run.
