LSU freshman offensive tackle Lance Heard has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

The former five-star lineman from Monroe, La., played in 12 games this season but did not travel to the ReliaQuest Bowl with the team.

Last week, head coach Brian Kelly said that Heard was looking at his role at LSU and was evaluating it with his family.

Heard is the 12th LSU player to enter the portal this offseason:

RB Tre Bradford
DT Bryce Langston
CB Laterrance Welch (Transferred to Arizona State)
RB Armoni Goodwin (UAB)
TE Jackson McGohan (Wisconsin)
DE Quency Wiggins (Colorado)
OL Marlon Martinez (Mississippi State)
DT Fitzgerald West
DT Tygee Hill
CB Duce Chestnut
CB Denver Harris
OT Lance Heard

Good riddance. Can’t have players with his attitude no matter how good you are.

Well I guess playing in 12 games as a freshman wasn't good enough. Don't worry, everything in life will be just given to you because you deserve it. This is not the actions of a man, someone that makes a commitment to a team and others and works to achieve what you want.

Does he really expect CBK to pull Will Campbell out of LT and make him the starter? Kid’s out of his mind. I wish he would just be patient for 1 more season.

Heard needs to learn to grow up and stop burning bridges. He embarrassed himself by writing a check he could not cash when he boasted that he was coming to LSU to be the starting LT. Not only did he fall behind Campbell and Jones, the real competition he lost was with Frazier. Then, after all this, he goes AWOL on his team for the bowl game. The man has to stop thinking that he gets to dictate terms to everybody else. Time for a reality check.

Bye, not a true LSU TIGER. Do not need him anyway. All about me... Not the team.

Bye Bye. Too bad you couldn’t beat out Will Campbell and wait your time up and pay your dues.

NIL promotes egomania, disloyalty, and self-centeredness. One’s value is what a collective is willing to pay. I hope our collective did the best they could to retain him. But, holding out on the Bowl game does not have a good look.

He should just sit out until he's draft eligible. Hes obviously the best LT in college and any pro team would be lucky to get him.

Not going to agree of disagree with anyone (respecting opinions) here but here a few observations:
1. We (LSU) have benefited with several very good transfers (Joe and Jayden for example) and we have had our share of duds that are now, SURPRISE, back in the portal.
2. Like many of you, I do not particularly like collegiate free-agency but it's a reality that probably won't go away.
3. It's awesome that our O line depth has developed so quickly under CBK that this kid, who definitely has ability, doesn't see a path to being a starter soon enough for his liking. And he is definitely not the only impatient 19 year old out there.
4. CBK and staff have an opportunity to start crunching some numbers on these trends (perhaps they already have). When we have depth at a position like OT, maybe it is wise to consider the character of the kid and not just the stars assigned by some recruiting analyst.

Just some thoughts. Hoping this leads to some constructive comments and dialogue.

I bet there's quite a few hangers-on who helped him make this decision. I never could understand the statements made by these kids today and ultimately coaches when they'd say its what's best for the family or a family decision.

My family would never ever assume their gonna get one penny from my success, in what ever I did, much less ever mention anything of that nature. NEVER. Too many looking for a ticket on the gravy train making decisions for these kids, I'm afraid.

Not a team player here. Grass is always greener elsewhere. Im guessing when i say green here he was offered more elsewhere. Love the portal and this NIL. College football is now catering to 18 to 22 year olds. What could go wrong?

Best of luck. Would have been glorious to see you drafted in the NFL from LSU.

Going, going, gone to the highest bidder! Heard could have played at LSU and would have been accepted here for the rest of his life, no matter how his career turns out. But play for pay and if you fail, you're out! Will never, ever be accepted or revered here in Louisiana. Better hope you make it big...
