LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva wrote a letter to Tiger fans to provide an update on the coaching search.

The letter was published Friday on LSUSports.net:
quote:

Dear Tiger Fans,

With just two games left in the regular season, I wanted to give Tiger fans an update on the hiring of our new head football coach. I take this responsibility very seriously and know the most important job I currently face is hiring the right head coach, leader and role model for the young athletes who choose to study and play for LSU.

I’ve identified a very specific set of guidelines in selecting our head coach. His first directive from me will be to create a culture of excellence and character in every facet of our football program in order to compete at a championship level every year.

He must have the highest standards of integrity and work ethic LSU fans have come to expect.

He must be a skilled and relentless recruiter, attracting the most gifted student-athletes to our university while instilling pride and confidence in parents who entrust their children to our program.

He must be able to motivate our players to perform at the highest level, and to hold them accountable to certain standards of behavior both on and off the field. He must be committed to continuing a tradition defined by character and integrity.

He must have the instinct to adapt to changes in the game of college football, allowing LSU to compete for championships every year.

Finally, he must be an accomplished leader of the young men who will rely on him for strength and guidance and from whom they will learn valuable lessons that will have a lasting impact on their lives.

I’m very confident we will hire a man possessing all of these traits to be the head coach of our beloved Fighting Tigers.

We are excited about Saturday’s game against Florida and hope to see you all there.

As always, we welcome your comments at athletics@lsu.edu. Unfortunately, we cannot answer every e-mail we receive, but please be assured they are all read.

Happy Thanksgiving and Geaux Tigers!
Joe Alleva

Do whatever it takes to bring in Herman on a long term contract. Someone will land Herman, and that program will be set, period. If they can't land the BEST available coach in the game (Herman), go directly back to Orgeron and bring in the best oc possible. Done.

Based on what his requirements are, he has the guy he's looking for already on the sidelines for the tigers. Remove the intern from Coach O's name and take the rest of the day off.

I gather that leaves Jimbo Fisher out. I watch with disbelief that he let Jamies Winston dress out and be on the sidelines during his suspension. He should have sent his arse packing, but let the prima dona remain. He lost control of the team and any respect I had for him. By Alleva's definition, Fisher is unqualified.

Im so ready for this to be over. I'm excited to watch LSU football three more times before I have to wait what always seems like an eternity before I can watch it again. Herman, Jimbo, or Orgeron. Either one is fine by me as long as we keep Aranda and adapt on offense.

We need a coach that is a great recruiter and if he does miss on a recruit the coach needs to be an a-hole and process said missed on player.

Coach O meets all of those requirements. So does Jimbo. Herman read this from his new office in Austin.

I don't know the reason for this so called update. Alleva has said before nothing will be confirmed until after the regular season. I know most people don't care for Alleva. But realize as AD he isn't paid to help produce honor students. He is paid to produce coaches who can win National Championships! That said, it did sound more like Coach O than Jimbo. Hang in there Tiger fans. We'll know soon enough!

It's being announced after the A&M game that Fisher is our new head coach.

Sounds a lot like Les Miles to me...

"He must have the instinct to adapt to changes in the game of college football, allowing LSU to compete for championships every year." That's the direct opposite of everything Les Miles is.

I think all that letter did was disqualify Art Briles and Bobby Petrino

Did Alleva just assume our next coach's gender?

It sure sounds like he's describing O. Did Jimbo get cold feet? No love for Herman?

"create a culture of excellence and character in every facet of our football program" Jimbo didn't appear to handle the Jamis Winston incident(s) with this in mind.
