Lane Kiffin Shares His Message To The Team After Second Loss Of The Season

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin isn't looking to make drastic changes following Saturday's overtime loss to Kentucky.
During his Monday press conference, Kiffin was asked about his message to the team heading into this week's matchup against Mississippi State.
Kiffin emphasized the importance of maintaining the team's standards and not overreacting to a loss, pointing out that LSU was just one play away from leaving Lexington with a victory.
Here's what Kiffin had to say:
Question: After this second loss, what's the message to the team about turning the page and making sure things are cleaner and more efficient heading into Mississippi State?
Lane Kiffin: "Yeah, staying to your standards. That's why I don't set goals of numbers of wins and those things, because your standards are what matters.
"If you have these goals, like, 'Oh, well, this is what I was trying to get to,' or individually, players could have stat goals, and then they're not playing as much or they're not having success. Well, then what?
"So it's about your process. It's about how you work and how you come to work every day. And now, all of a sudden, do you not do the extra stuff on Sunday that you've been coming in for? That's the challenge to them.
"That's why I point out in the meetings all the things in it, so that when you lose a game, you don't think, 'Now I need to change what I'm doing.'
"Now, if you lose by 30 points, you've got to look at some things. But you get four chances to win. Here are all these plays where, if one of these plays goes right, you're winning today, and everybody's saying, 'Man, you guys are really resilient. You handled the hostile crowd. Way to overcome.'
"And it's one yard.
"So I don't overreact either way. Just like if we would've won by stopping them on the two-point play, or any of those four scenarios, I wouldn't have been overreacting, saying, 'Man, we played amazing. We overcame adversity.'
"I would've said, 'Hey, we've got some issues to work on.'"
No. 22 LSU (4-2, 1-2 SEC) will host No. 16 Mississippi State (4-1, 2-1 SEC) at Tiger Stadium Saturday for an 11 a.m. kickoff on ESPN.
