Former LSU wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase has had some issues with dropped passes in practice and preseason games with the Cinncinati Bengals.

This week, he explained whats going on. Per SDS:
quote:

“The ball is different because it is bigger,” Chase said. “It doesn’t have the white stripes on the side so you can’t see the ball coming from the tip point so you actually have to look for the strings on the ball at the top, which is hard to see because whole ball is brown and you have the six strings that are white. But for the most part, just have to get used to it and find out what I am comfortable with catching.”

Chase also added that he’s not looking the ball into his hands the way he needs to:

“My drops come from me not looking the ball in. By looking the ball in I’m talking about high-pointing it and watching it and as soon as it hit you looking away,” Chase said. “Me running before the catch. Me doing stuff like that and dropping it. I did that a couple times.”

He should ask Justin how he learned to catch a pro ball

I know some QBs have issues transitioning from the college to the pro ball. But, I do not think I have ever heard a WR say this.

He's trying so hard to not blame the year he took off as the reason why he's struggling.

Guess he didnt load pro footballs into the jugs machine in his year off

You'd think he would be practicing with an NFL ball the whole year he took off

Thought he sat out a year so he could get ready for the NFL

Guess he was using a college ball to train when he opted out. I mean that was the point right? Train for the NFL? One would assume you be would using, you know, things they use in the NFL, like the ball.

Translation: "I sat out an entire year, so now I'm struggling getting back to the level I was at"

Thew dude looked great at LSU's Pro Day running routes and catching passes I believe. So, what's the deal now?? Nothing, it's just all in his head.

He sat out so he could get aid early and frick around, knowing no matter what he'd be a top 10 pick. Let's not pretend it was anything else.

Was he not practicing with an NFL ball his whole year that he sat out? I highly doubt that.

Excuses excuses. Just own up to it and say you screwed up and that you will work hard to correct it. It’s not the ball’s fault.

What did you read? He's literally owning up to it and saying he's gotta correct some things. Explaining what you're doing wrong it not always an "excuse."

While he's not wrong about the ball being different, I think this is the first time I've ever heard a WR blame the ball for not being caught.

He also blamed himself for not looking it in.

I to have the same issue catching NFL balls. I am also not an NFL wide receiver.

Damn, you guys are sensitive. He was asked a question and he gave his honest answer about what is happening and what he needs to get more comfortable with. He's not bitching that the ball is too big, he's just stating that it is and he has to get used to it along with looking it in, etc.

Our fans love to crap on our own and we wonder why some kids choose to go elsewhere.

No sympathy. Sat out a year and got rusty. No excuses, man up, catch the ball. Justin didn't seen to have that issue. Odell didn't seem to have that issue catching that somebitch with 1 hand rookie season.
