Greg McElroy Discusses LSU's Problems On Offense

ESPN's Greg McElroy discussed LSU's problems on offense during his podcast this week. Here's what he had to say:

"LSU officially has a problem on the offensive side of the football," McElroy said.

“A lot of this has to do with an inability, right now, to run the football on a consistent basis. They did not run the ball well in this game."

"They struggled against a three-man rush. Their offensive line is a problem right now. We had a feeling that that group might take some time and struggle a little bit early in the season. Well, it’s come to fruition in a big way.”

"They haven't been able to consistently run the football, which puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the passing attack," McElroy said.

“They didn’t do a great job in pass protection in this game, too. When Ole Miss is just rushing three, and Garrett Nussmeier is still feeling pressure and still having to leave the pocket against a three-man rush? That just can’t happen.”

How are you this fricking dumb? It is harder to consistently complete passes when the OL can’t block! He isn’t mobile enough to overcome the OL issues.

I don’t consider myself dumb, so I’ll weigh in. Nuss had time to throw. He had clean pockets consistently. It’s just the sacks came from a three man front which made it more egregious. But, he had time. His inability to complete passes downfield, his slow decision making, and his inability to run puts more pressure on the run game and the offensive line. He doesn’t know how to make a defense pay.

if Ole Miss is only rushing 3, then where are the other 8? Double covering our 4 WRs. You shouldn't be surprised that Nuss would struggle against that.

All the off season, spring, summer and fall workouts and CBK and Davis can only put this shite on the field. Nuss is a joke and scared to get hit. I would put MVB in and give him a chance. What the hell have we got to lose accept maybe 3 or 4 more games. CBK is a joke.

you seriously think starting MVB is an option? Unless Nuss is hurt, there is no way BK or any other coach not named Saban would bench Nuss.

I would like for MVB have a series or two to change the tempo, he seemed to be able to make good throws and his ability to certainly changes the opponent’s defensive plan. Couldn’t hurt due to the ole miss debaucle.

When you get a 3 man rush if your QB can run not only you pick good yards you will stop the 3 man rush and your WRs get open. The main problem is the QB.

The running game has been an issue for 5 years. Jaden was able to camouflage it , nuss can’t. Kelly’s issue has been the offensive line since he’s gotten to BR. Last years line was great at pass protection but not run blocking as well. Maybe they can get a little better but not much this year. The book is out on how to beat the tigers for now. Geaux tigers!!

Greg, it is easy to break something down. Try adding to your "rant", excuse me, "podcast", some feedback on how to fix problems. See the problem is only part of the battle. You are the worst kind of analyst. It is so easy to point out mistakes, but try to really review the film and give some real and helpful feedback. I am a technical analyst, Holla at me if you want some tips on how to do your job better. At least I know I am a better analyst than you Greg. I am a highly analytical problem solver and you seem to be just an over analytical porblem...

I don’t know where it ranks statistically over recent LSU offenses, but this year’s offense is incredibly boring.

3 guys on defense able to protect 160 yards from sideline to sideline. It’s kind of insane.

Let’s hand the ball off right behind a blocker who can’t contain or even trick his defender to go the wrong direction from time to time.
