In a recent ESPN article, Mark Schlabach and several other College Football writers picked the "season-defining games for college football's top 25 teams."

According to Schlabach, LSU's season opener vs. USC in Las Vegas will be a season-defining game for the Tigers next year.
quote:

12. LSU Tigers

LSU coach Brian Kelly hopes to restore LSU's reputation on defense this season, as the Tigers will get tested early against USC in the Vegas Kickoff Classic at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sept. 1. The Trojans won't have Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Caleb Williams, tailback MarShawn Lloyd and leading receivers Brenden Rice and Tahj Washington, who helped them rank third in the FBS in scoring (41.8 points) and fifth in passing (333 yards) last season. Lincoln Riley's offenses will always be capable of piling up yards and points, but naturally USC has had its own problems on defense. Slowing down LSU's prolific attack will be a test of its own. -- Schlabach
Here's a look at LSU's full 2024 schedule:

9/1 vs. Southern Cal (In Las Vegas)
9/7 vs. Nicholls St.
9/14 at South Carolina
9/21 vs. UCLA
9/28 vs. South Alabama
10/12 vs. Ole Miss
10/19 at Arkansas
10/26 at Texas A&M
11/9 vs. Alabama
11/16 at Florida
11/23 vs. Vanderbilt
11/30 vs. Oklahoma

12-0 we'd have to have a few heart attack WINS.

11-1 could be...

10-2 and bowl win = 11-2, I'd be cool with major improvements on defense and HOPE.

9-3 would suck

Could lose = Ole Miss, Bama, Oklahoma

Bad losses would be = USC, UCLA

I'm going 11-1 with a dramatic loss to Oklahoma

We won't lose to Oklahoma or Ole Miss at home. Too difficult for them to do that. I think a road loss at A&M is much more likely than OU or Ole Miss. I feel it's been decades since last loss to Ole Miss at home. They've done it 1x in past 23 years. Also will be tough at Florida if they show up this season. If they're same as last year then LSU will win.

I genuinely hope I’m wrong , but I feel like karma is going to bite us for the Bama game this year. Everyone is bashing Doboer, and we beat Saban Kelly’s first year when Bama did that to us. Seems like the roles are reversed.

Hopeful but not optimistic.

It seems like we played a Lincoln Riley team not so long ago. Remind me how that turned out.

USC will also be without their coach as Joe Biden announced last night that he was killed by an illegal.

Nothing like pumping up USC in the LSU projection at #12. 1 sentence on actual LSU?? Lame.

Agree. It would be nice to get some momentum from a season opener dub, unlike the past few years

We have a bye before all our biggest games, and a whole offseason before USC.

Beat USC and you should get to 5-0 fairly easily. Bye then beat Ole Miss and we should be 6-0 with the 2 toughest sleeper games being @A&M and @Arkansas afterwards. Even 1-1 in those games and we’re 7-1 going into a bye before a home game against Alabama and Vandy at home is virtually a bye before getting Oklahoma at home. Schedule sets up nicely for a playoff run for us.

What a schedule! Play an SEC schedule and also a B1G 10 mini-schedule.

Lincoln Riley remembers the embarrassment of 2019. He is praying he does not get embarrassed again.

I’m sure they got tons of illegals running around in the Los Angeles region, baw should’ve been much more careful.

Dang. A Daniels/Williams matchup would have been awesome last year. Sad they’re both gone prior to this game.
