In case you didn't already know, Tyrann Mathieu's famous 'Honey Badger' nickname was created by TigerDroppings user Mike Linebacker on the Tiger Rant back in August of 2011.

This week down at the Super Bowl, Mathieu revealed that he found out about the nickname through his former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis who was browsing the internet after the West Virginia game during the 2011 season.

It wasn’t ESPN, it was ABC. The Honey Badger nickname began after the Gay Dude Randall went on YouTube midway through 2011 and posted a viral video of a honey badger “taking what he wants.”

You would be surprised at some of the people who read this board....

If he read here then, he reads here now. I want to take this opportunity to say that the way he left LSU was dirty as hell. It was sneaky, and lowdown. When Bo Pelini left to go to Neb., he left like a man.

I propose that Mike Linebacker get a lifetime TD.com PREMIUM membership for the legendary naming.

Glad he read enough to get the hell outta here in time to let us hire a real DC and ruin a the newest divisional rival at the same time. Cheers to Chief

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that he was a user.

I am so freaking glad we beat them 'billies arses! Although WV is in a beautiful part of the country, all goes down the drain in Morgantown. I was waiting to hear the banjos ! For those that were at the game, what an awesome sight when the fog rolled into the stadium while LSU had no mercy on those 'billies. Sadly, one of our fan was beaten without cause by a worthless POS!

As a Tiger fan that lives in Morgantown I agree with everything you said. The sad thing is that you are describing the WV fans before the opioid epidemic bombshell went off.

That WV game. Watched it on TV. WV scored, had the momentum, cuts back from commercial and 7 Nation Army playing and the white out in the stands. Place was hopping. Then Mo Claiborne runs the kick back for a TD and that was that. Glorious.

One of the greatest plays I've ever seen. Tyrann flying through the air with arms and legs extended, stripping the UK QB, landing on his feet, scooping, and scoring. Honey Badger "takes what he wants."

Jim Hawthorne's call was the best... "do you want me to tell you who it was??"

Unfortunately I didn't hear Hawthorne's call, because I was sitting in the South End Zone seat courtesy of a gifted ticket from my daughter's senior partner from Lexington who couldn't make the game. Kentucky fans all around me were speechless at what the Honey Badger had done.

Like it was yesterday. It spread quickly and it helped that the 'takes what he wants' Honey Badger video had already gone viral. LINK

I remember this thread as well, he had the video of the badger to accompany it as well.
