With the SEC likely moving to a new scheduling format when Texas and Oklahoma come into the league, LSU head coach Brian Kelly told ESPN that he favors the nine-game model for 2024 because he "wants to play the best." Per ESPN:
quote:

"I've been in this for three decades, and no disrespect to any of the other schools that we play outside of the SEC, but they just don't excite me," said Kelly, who is entering his second season at LSU. "I want to play the best. I came down here to the SEC because I wanted to play against Alabama. I want to play A&M. I want to play Auburn, the great teams, and in our new scheduling we get to play Alabama every year, Ole Miss every year and A&M, and that's really why I came down here. I want to play those games, and I think playing nine SEC games is great for your schedule, and it prepares you for the opportunity to play for a championship but also play for the national championship."

What evidence is there to suggest that A&M is a great team, historically or present-day?

Interesting take on the "pods" idea to promote evolving rivalries. I like the Arkansas rivalry, but I don't think LSU fans ever embraced it like Arkansas fans do, and I prefer the renewed aTm rivalry to Florida. As a short list of consistent opponents, I'm starting to warm up to it.

It's not a rivalry. Maybe the dumb arse trophy goes away now.

CBK ran into the fire. Twinks like Lincoln Riley ran from it.

Lincoln Riley can't beat Tulane. He don't want any of the SEC.

Florida State doesn’t excite me. Army doesn’t excite me. Grambling doesn’t excite me (but there dance team does).

Win or lose against them doesn't take away from who he wants to play.

I like the subtle dig on Ole Miss.

Still though, no reason we shouldn't play a purely geographical schedule which would have Ole Miss, MS. St. and Arkansas in my opinion.

I do reckon Kiffin will catch Kelly’s dig/troll.

So is your thought that LSU being in a pod with Ole Miss, Miss St, and Arkansas while Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Florida form another geographic pod would be equitable?

@MikeTheTiger71

No, I think a pod of AL, Aub, Tenn and Vandy is the most geographically accurate one. Fla, UGA, SoCar and Kent would be in the far east.

Out west you'd have OU, UT, TAM and Mizzou. Purely geographical. Cannot balance them based on historical tiers and obviously tradition is going by the wayside.
