NFL.com media analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently reached out to five different NFL executives and asked him "who is the most polarizing prospect in this year's draft?"

One of the anonymous executives picked LSU's Arden Key, who had an up-and-down junior season, recording just four sacks in eight games.
quote:

Executive 2: LSU OLB Arden Key:
"We had guys who had huge grades on him coming into the season and they plummeted during the season. We're still trying to sort him out."
Jeremiah also recently unveiled his top 50 prospects for the NFL Draft and ranked Key at No. 33. Here's what he had to say.
quote:

33.) Arden Key, LB, LSU
Key is a tall, rangy edge rusher for the Tigers. He splits his time between a two- and three-point stance. This is a frustrating player to study. He has a rare blend of size, agility and explosiveness, but takes too many plays off and allows inferior opponents to neutralize him. As a pass rusher, he flashes an explosive get-off. He has the ability to wrap around the offensive tackle and flatten to the quarterback. He'll also show off a nifty step-back move where he swipes away the hands of the tackle before clearing him and closing on the QB. However, there are other times where he gets stuck vs. both tackles and tight ends. His effort is spotty. Against the run, he fails to consistently set the edge and his back-side pursuit is lethargic. Key has Pro Bowl talent, but his up-and-down play is concerning.

That's what happens when you start worrying about your draft stock and not how you're playing the game with your current team.

Do you blame him? I mean after all they are playing for free.

Not to throw any player especially an LSU player under the bus but this is guy if I’m a team sorry I don’t trust unless it’s a 3/7 Round period

Best possible scenario for him. Pats police themselves and maximum effort is given or you’re gone.

I mean I'd say that's pretty much what we saw this year. Not to mention, he's going to have to tell them WTF he was doing that whole spring semester. NFL scouts don't give a $h!t about "respect my privacy."

correct - NFL GMs will demand to know why he left. The whole "we don't have a right to know" won't fly with NFL teams - not when they're investing a draft pick and a lot of money.

"I didn't see lazy when he played Bama"... did you watch any other games this year? Should NFL teams expect Key to only play hard for a few games on their schedule, and coast through the rest?

Insanely stupid decision not to come back for one more year. Top 5 pick money vs 2nd round pick. Someone help me with my math. How much money did he lose?

Should have had surgery earlier rather than taking time off, should have stayed in shape regardless. Should have practiced with the team and played in bowl (tape your damn fingers together) instead of peacing our. He didn’t care to be here, another year wouldn’t have helped that. That attitude reflected on the field according to this eval too.

Not exactly playing for free. I hear this all the time. My education cost me many dollars, not to mention my children’s college also. If he failed to get a degree, that us on him and his parents. He is a head case, face it.

Good luck Key. You will get drafted, but no where near where you think you will. I hope you do well in the NFL. You just need to stop being lazy.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. I don't buy not one thing about his little sabbatical in the offseason. I just don't think he wanted to put in the work and it showed on the field. He could've given us 12 100% effort performances this year. Instead, he got fat during the offseason and gave about 75% effort majority of the time. It showed.

He’s not wrong. Wish him the best, but I won’t be shocked if he’s a total bust. Something is missing with Key.

Wouldn't that suck being #33 in the draft? You just miss the Patriots(probably) to be drafted by the Browns.

I could see the pats taking him. He would fit great in their defense and just needs the right motivation to get that nfl mindset. Pats usually like going the free agency route though so who knows

Nah, Belichik would swap picks with Cleveland, pick up a 3rd round pick and lets Cleveland draft Key where he'll be a bust and the Pats pick up (2) 10-year starters at #33 and #65.

I would not waste a first round pick on Key. He has potential, but not at the expense of a first round pick. Hope I am wrong, but I just did not see the effort during his Junior season at all.

I understand the issues with his shoulder and I wish Key the best, but one has to wonder if Key has a "Vince Young" complex hanging around. Was it merely the shoulder or is there something else wrong that might be causing him issues. This guy's analysis was spot on.

Key could prove himself and come back top 5 but he turned pro mentality over a year ago.
