LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva said Wednesday that the school will rip out the football field at Tiger Stadium next summer and dig eight feet deep to replace the water drainage system which does not drain properly.

Alleva announced the news in front of a crowd at Football Caravan event in Houston and said the project will cost $2 million dollars.

Why do we need new drainage? I thought it never rains in Death Valley?

That should be a good enough investment to keep us from going turf for a while.... I hate turf football fields. I take pride in our grass field with all those plush blades, perfectly cut, leaving fresh grass stains on the uni's... some may say it is even good enough to eat. Truth be told, I would love 5 mins to roll around naked on that field when it is at its best.

So how many times do you have to redo drainage at Stadium to get it right. This is like 3rd or 4th time in 20 years.

I graduated in ‘06 and they did it once while I was in school and once afterward. So definitely the third time in 15 years. I have ZERO confidence they will get it right this time.

They can havr monster truck racers in the dome one night and play football at noon the next day I’m sure they can have it ready in time with the right contractors.

I say they artificial turf from the sidelines to the fence all arround the field and leave the natural grass for the playing surface only. This would allow them to quit using that ugly arse tarp in the player areas. This would be similar to the baseball field. Also, I would like to see the artificial turf on the baseball field extended onto the warning track in the outfield.

I would rather use the 2M to buyout our HC after we finish 6-6

The good contractor will turn him down and he'll hire Mitch Landrieu to be in charge of drainage.

$100 says LSU will have to open the season at Memorial Stadium down the interstate or play home games in Shreveport.
