The University of Texas has interviewed LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri about its head coaching vacancy, sources confirmed to The Advocate on Thursday.
Texas is looking to replace Augie Garrido after 20 seasons as the Longhorns baseball coach.

Teams reflect their coach and it has become apparent in the post-season his teams press and lack some mental toughness our program used to have. Just getting there is not enough.

@Barry "we have finished the season as a national 5 years in a row and we've made it to Omaha more often than not" here's to you being happy for being mediocre in baseball - Cheers

I keep seeing that word "mediocre". I'm not sure it means what you guys think it means.

@Barry "What exactly has been mediocre about our baseball program?" winning 1 CWS game in 7 years

That's not mediocre. Any baseball program in America outside of Florida and Vanderbilt would take that any time, any day. You guys do T seem to understand that we're not the only university committed to baseball anymore.

You just swept by CCU in your house in a Super Regional...probably not a good time to ask for a raise.

I think PM is a good coach overall, but I wouldn't cry about this. I think his teams have been lacking discipline both on the base paths and hitting which I'm not fond of. His recruiting isn't top notch anymore either. I hate how he refuses to develop more pitchers as well.

I just hope LSU doesn't offer him a raise because of this. He can go to Texas if he wants that. He has won 1 CWS game in 7 years. There are plenty other coaches out there that can do that at LSU.

What's sad is, they will. He's not going anywhere. It pains me to say, but LSU has settled for mediocrity in athletics (see cas4t comment below). Alleva is a spineless puppet and King Alex is clueless. I don't expect us to win a NC in every sport every year but I think we should win one or two on a regular basis. At least we can hang our hat on the Intimidator and that we have the best college baseball fans in all the world :rollseyes"

I'm not thrilled about how CPM coaches, but it seems to work as we have finished the season as a national 5 years in a row and we've made it to Omaha more often than not. College baseball is just not the same as it was in Skip's era.
