Going to DC next week. Trying to plan some running around on the metro, but it does not seem to let you book anything in advance. Am I missing something or does it just not let you do that?

When I use the trip planner function it shows hey here is one you can use, but it doesn't let you book it. It seems like they have enough running that it shouldn't be a problem getting anywhere. Seems like from Arlington cemetery to downtown they are running at least every fifteen minutes.

Am I wrong?

yeah, it's just a regular subway, no need to book anything in advance.

You can pay at the turnstyle with Apple Pay or a credit card. Just tap when you go in and tap when you leave and you get billed automatically for the ride.

You can buy a SmartTrip card which is basically a debit card that deducts after each ride, but there's no reason to anymore.

They run regularly enough though that there’s no risk of getting hung out to dry with tight schedules?

Metro is a rapid transit system. There's no advanced booking. Use Apple Pay or add SmarTrip to your Apple Wallet from the Transit Card menu.

The longest stretch you’ll see between trains is 15-20 mins and that’s on non-peak hours.

On the major lines during the day there are trains all the time

Is Cinderella going to be late leaving the ball? I'm truly confused as to what you're doing in DC that is on "tight schedules" unless you're going to an awards ceremony every hour on the hour.

Yes, blue line trains run every 10-15 minutes. Don't get hung up on the schedule, they're just a suggestion, the station will show estimated arrival time for the next trains.

I think we went to Arlington via the Hop On-Hop Off bus if you were thinking of doing that. It was a great way to see the major sites. Used it all day. Was a nice way to see the monuments at night.
