Bought a new Maytag washer in December. Has touch screen controls. I need to hold my finger on the start touch pad for about 30 seconds until I see the Maytag logo appear, then keep holding until I get a “restarting” screen. Need to keep holding while screen goes black for another 30 seconds until a 5,4,3,2,1 countdown starts. Sometimes an hourglass shows up for 30 seconds, sometimes not. Then I finally get an actual working touch screen with the options for temp, speed, and dirt level. At that point I should be able to cycle through those and put my finger on the actual “play” touch pad. 1 1/2 minutes or so just to get the thing to start.

Does anyone else have one of these and is this lunacy the way yours works? I just had to try the process about 10 times because it kept kicking turning off before I could hit the cycles on the touch screen itself. Had to unplug for 5 minutes for a hard reset. Finally got it to cooperate on the 2nd try after plugging back in.

Don’t know why they felt we needed touchscreens on our washing machines. Is it supposed to be easier than turning a dial?

Sorry I had nothing constructive to contribute.

No I don't. There was a lengthy period of my life where I was a loyal & happy Maytag owner. Then it happened. Maytag sold out their emphasis of product quality for profit and their product went to crap!

Do yourself a favor........ buy a SPEED QUEEN. You can thank me later.

That sounds like utter hell. Try using the back of your hand to wake it up. This works with the keyless door locks on my house with a touch screen, for some reason.

Replaced an older Maytag that we had no problems with at all until we overloaded it one too many times and blew out a bearing or something.

Follow up - Per Maytag website I unplugged it for 5 minutes to reset. Also learned that I can't let other fingers or edge of hand rest on the panel area while I'm waiting on process. Just the point of my finger on the start button.

My daughter is in the market for a W&D. I’ve seen all the glowing reviews on here, and I don’t doubt they’re true, but I didn’t expect to see that Speed Queen was so much more expensive than Maytag, Whirlpool, or Kenmore. On the basic models she was researching, Speed Queen is roughly twice the price.
