re: Worst course ever played?
Posted by CardiacTiger on 4/29/26 at 12:48 pm to BRich
In the mid-90s, I'd have to say Barksdale AFB. Both the practice round and multiple tournament rounds of the State 4A championship had like of worm dung piles everywhere. In 2015, the worst course was the old Avoyelles golf course between Bunkie and Hessmer. It was called Bay Hills ?? in the 90s and when I played it, Gator Grounds or something ??. The same worm crap but British Open type fescue just about everywhere up to 4 ft high. Whoever was caring after that place didn't have the knowledge nor resources obviously. Even Spring Bayou's hardpan layout in the 90s was far beyond much better condition ??.

re: Cypress Bend Golf Club in Many, LA.

I quit golf 9 years ago. In my heyday (90's) walking Cypress Bend while it was being built and playing numerous times until 2010-ish, the greens were always dreadfully slow!! The course has an amazing layout and beauty all around. I've heard often there were droughts of struggles to keep it up or other excuses. Always played from the back tees. My best score was around par and worst in the low 80s. The hard doglegs were a lot of fun and always managed to slice or duck hook the corners of the fairway. The small company my dad wound up retiring from had a camp 5 min drive away or 10-15 min boat ride. Had a lot of wonderful memories at TB fishing and playing in the 80s and 90s.
