Details still emerging in an officer-involved shooting

LINK

A witness recounted: "She Danja continued: 'They got her in handcuffs while they shot her y'all.' She said she was originally from Louisiana and Arkansas and was just visiting the city.

She continued: 'I stopped here to get some gas, y'all, and my son just watched this. My one-year-old son just watched this. My 10-year-old son just watched this. And my 13-year-old son just watched this.

'She was fixing to cooperate. She got scared, she ran down there, they shot her. She ran and they shot at her one, two, three, four.'

"She Danja (pictured) was quickly asked to move on by the officers but hit back that her sons were still in the store getting ice cream"

7 or 8 over the course of an hour.

Big Dipper area for the most part. South to North as someone mentioned.

How will dancers at strip joints get tips
Replace the Olympics with quadrennial nuclear bomb competitions.

Looks like a space hurricane.
Prayers for your beautiful daughter and you and your family. Medicine has made so much progress, there are doctors out there who are absolute miracle workers. Any 9f the top hospitals in this list of ranked peds cancer would be good. One that takes care of family during treatment is a bonus.

"After impounding the vehicle, officers said they found a stolen gun hidden above the sun roof cover in the car."

That should be the biggest offense.

I had no idea that remote-controlled license plate coverings we're so readily available. I guess with all the red light and speeding cameras they have a market.

Wonder if he tried to use it when getting pulled over...
I've heard that some prosecutors are more interested in plea deals to keep their conviction rate at 100%. They then use that as political evidence they are tough on crime when they run for higher office. Don't know any of the parties involved, so can't say that is a factor or not. Sure does seem like there are an awful lot of repeat offenders, particularly felons in possession.

One would think a felon would avoid a gun like kryptonite. Unless they feel the odds of then getting caught and convicted again are low. Or they just don't think ahead to consequences for actions.

Most if not all of those guns would have gone into circulation for more crime. So 32 stolen guns could arguably end up in an equal or greater number of crimes. Possibly including a murder or two, depending on which city they get sold in. I don't know the percentage of crimes committed with legal vs. stolen guns, but I seem to recall the stolen gun percentage was pretty high. So firearm theft is more than just stolen property. It's probably future crime (which is a kind of Orwellian, if one thinks of precrime) but facts support stolen guns being highly involved with subsequent actual offenses. So I think mandatory, non-negotiable minimum sentences for firearm theft is worth considering. Especially in the case of multiple firearm heists. I'd say 2-5 years minimum, adding 5 for each additional gun.

If the cops hadn't got lucky and spotted the perp vehicle driving away from the scene, most if not all of those would be out in the hands of other criminals. Would be nice if the media made a big deal out of it: "steal a gun to to jail, and here's 4 losers that are headed for the pokey"
Finally found pictures of the haul and the perps

Pretty detailed write-up at that site.

Oh yes, more perps were arrested than were convicted. Maybe they got one or two to flip, or were juvies and cut loose. Some convicted felons in there, which may explain the 96 and 120 month sentences.

It's amazing how many felons in possession arrests there are. One might imagine that would be one good place to start with some sort of federal "three strikes and yer out" law.

What is street price on a stolen gun anyway? Trying to figure out how much those 32 guns would have brought in. Am guessing that all 4 of them could have made that much in a month or two at some $15/hr fast food joint.

Old article said 6 arrested and value over $20k

"four men have been sentenced for their involvement in the theft of 32 firearms from a gun dealer in Maurice, Louisiana"

They got sentences of 14 to 120 months.

With overcrowding and early release programs, who knows how much time they'll actually serve. Not to mention appeals because this was doubtless their first brush with the law ever.

"All four of the men admitted to their involvement in stealing 32 firearms from the premises of Swampland Trading Co., a licensed firearms dealer located in Maurice, Louisiana, on September 7, 2021"

Figured robbing a gun store would have automatically had stiffer minimum penalties.

He needed an hour of rehab in the air conditioned command trailer by the time he jogged the 50 yds to the perimeter. Glow-sticks at the ready too.

Channeling the Airsoft kid, but with a sweet pension as his goal instead of defeating some enemy.

Looks like they were waiting for the state police to show up with night vision gear in case the incident went into the wee hours...

Yes, that's from the actual event.
Wait till they start digging on the violence prevention AI software the school district was using...
Grandpa claims he knew nothing of the guns because he was a felon and not allowed to have any guns where he lived.

Any word on the shooter's father? Divorced, dead, mia?

Can't make this stuff up.
Even in large cities the chief of police is almost always a political animal/appointee. There may be extremely capable officers in the swat teams, but they don't usually call the shots. Not unlike the military.

Look at the Chicago police chiefs. They have all been appointed by the increasingly incompetent mayors. They are largely despised by the rank and file. In major events, the big cheese or one of his/her/they/thems appointed henchmen/women/persons will be in charge. That means in the incident command world, control gets transferred until it's some big kahuna running the show. If you act outside of orders you get fired/demoted. Which should have been worth 8t in this case. But it's easier to go with the flow, not make waves, stay safe, go home alive, and put in 20 for that sweet pension and a gig at another department. The BORTAC dudes, who are legit hard-core, ended the bureaucratic stasis.

It's the whole ICS mindset, bring in the $750,000 command trailer and have meetings before acting.

It was supposed to have changed after Columbine. Clearly it hasn't.

btw, does anyone have a list of all the agencies that were there, and when they arrived? It's often easiest "safest" to delay action until command can be transferred to the next bigger fish.
People often block secure doors open to grab a smoke. It's an extremely common violation of security protocol. You'll see cigarette butts and a large stone or other object near most any back or side door. The cellphone may be a PC excuse for a cigarette break, especially since most schools are smoke-free.

That being said, who would expect a school in the sticks to be a target? Things need to change.
