This makes no sense for Jayden

1). He's not going to get a court order telling LSU to retire #5. There's no precedent for it and it's not common practice for schools to retire numbers just because the player won a Heisman. It's the university's sole discretion.

2). No promise was ever made to him. Kelly did not promise to retire his jersey and even if he did, he doesn't have the authority.

3). Even if he would somehow win and get an order for LSU to retire #5, what good would it do to have it done this way? Retiring numbers is a way of ingratiating yourself with the program and fan base. This is certainly not going to do that, and LSU would largely treat him like he was never here.

4). This will damage his image in the NFL. The NFL is the shield. It's not the NBA. It's about more than the player. Divas always get scrutinized and pushed to the side, especially when they start to decline. This won't sit well with the sport in general. He'll still get his contract and $ because he's a great player, but he won't be getting any favors for this and will have a poor reputation in the football world.

I'm sure he'll make this about Burrow and #9 not being worn, but it's also not officially been retired. Burrow led LSU to a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, an undefeated season, and probably the greatest CFB season of all time.

Jayden led LSU to... a Cheez-it and Poptart bowl. He never appeared in the playoff or won an SEC title. The defense in 2023 was bad but, sometimes it takes the perfect storm to cement a legacy deserving a retired number.
