re: Text from USM fan regarding tonight's pitcher for USM
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 6/6/22 at 1:52 pm to rfajr58
How about when they have the shift on, since they are going to watch the first strike, the lefties either bunt or at least act like it so the infield may change a little or get in the pitchers head that he may have to field the whole left side of the field, or maybe anybody besides bum leg morgan who looks like they weigh 180 soaking wet , try to steal bases and get into these young pitchers heads and make them either try to quick pitch or not place the ball correctly and give the next batter a chance. instead of letting them get into a groove and just pitch.

Play 9 games split into 4 pods
1.tx,OU, mizz, Ark
2. Lsu, ole miss,A&M,State
3. Bama,aub,tenn,vandy
4. uga,fla,usc,kentucky
one year you will have 5 home games the next you have 4.
you will play 1 have and 1 have not
1st year lsu
TX,MIZZou, 1 at home 1 away
Bama,Vandy
Fla, Kentucky
the next year you play the other 2 , the 3rd year you play the first 2 just swap home and away, same 0n 4th year , that way in a 4 year span you will play at all stadiums , plus bama gets to keep tenn, aub, fla will keep uga , tx will keep OU , we will keep ole miss and A&M

I would say see mike the tiger, if he is out. I would check out the spring football game, since it is free to get in even if you stayed 5 minutes. beaver stadium sits 46k , LSU is over 100k , just to see the size of it from the inside and imagine what it is like on a saturday night, and to say you have been there.

the stats show that thompson has 10 errors on the year, which we all know is alot more than that, arkansas as a team has 18.So if your telling me he is the best LSU has and that everybody else on the team is so much worse that they dont even get a shot at it on a midweek game, Then how far has LSU Baseball fallen , and do the other infielders on the bench deserve to even put on the purple and yellow shirt.
re: Holt/Cranford/Safford/Leto all play/ed short stop.
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 4/15/22 at 9:53 am to abellsujr
next midweek game I wouldn't mind him having 3 different guys each play 3 innings, and after 2 midweek games somebody might step up, and if not at least you are sending a message to Thompson. Right now he can make errors and nothing is changing.
re: Looks like the lineup won’t be changed according to JJ
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 4/15/22 at 9:00 am to Bring Da Wood
I understand we don't have a true shortstop on the team right now , so please get the nil money ready and solve that problem 1st for next year ,I believe once milazzo comes back that will sure up the catching.I think thompson CAN physically play SS, but I think he is mentally struggling and it is in his head. He doesnt move fluid and he always looks like he is behind and rushes the throw and it is never on target. I understand that during the weekend is never the time to try new things, but I dont understand weekday games you try merrifield or sombody else at short , I know his fielding % is worse than Thompson.I dont go by fielding error % because it shows us last night making 1 error. I saw berry make a throwing error in the 1st, thompson make 2 bootin the ball around , doughty got folded up like a lawn chair, travinski let 2 go by that hit off the glove. It seems like besides morgan the whole infield looks shaky. There are alot of players who can Physically play SEC baseball ,but not all can play mentally.

take down the right field aluminum bleachers and build something nice or make it a berm for the students, block it off with it own entrance where only students can attend , sell hot dogs and food really cheap, sell beer or let them bring in coolers( even if it is only bag coolers or 20 qt and below). on midweek games let them get in for free and have food and drink specials, and 5 dollar tickets fri-sunday.
re: Batting order with Berry, Dugas and clutch hitting
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 4/1/22 at 4:52 pm to Adam4848
Since he likes the opposite batting line up
doughty
morgan
crews
berry
Dugas behind berry to give berry better looks at pitches
jobert behind dugas to give dugas better looks
travinski
thompson
gio on a rh pitcher maybe bianco against lh pitching
But the biggest problem is none are hitting Left Handed Pitching. bat avg .184 that is why A&m brought 4 left handers againt Lsu , You saw Auburn bring 2 left handers back to back last night. With them batting .184 and bascially giving up about 1 to 2 errors a game and giving them runs. then here Lsu is with bascially 1 left hander in the whole starting and bull pen , and had to bring that guy off his old team, just to have one.The one thing that hurt us was coleman going down early. just my opinion

I trully believe once dugas gets healthier he will come around, I think being sick and losing weight will mess with your strength and timing, since he bats right maybe bat him 9th so you have LH morgan behind him and will give him better pitches to hit, I would like to see doughty at 3rd, and merrifield at 2nd, at least since jobert has really been hitting like he was. Thompson just doesnt look comfortable at ss. even when he fields the ball it seems like he has trouble getting it to first and morgan has to dig it out of the dirt, I have never seen a 1st Baseman have to work so hard. I think he knows he has the position because lsu doesnt have a back up ss that hits above .250, maybe move merrifield to ss and bring competition to the position might put a little fire behind thompson. if there is a guy on 3rd and if milazzo isnt behind the plate I dont trust the other 2. As for Pitching we have money who should be pitching on probably sat or sun , but we have him friday night out of a 27 inning weekend he is good for about 4, when coleman when down it hurt , it tookaway a starter plus a lefty, since we didnt have hardly any lefty, he had to bring one with him just to have one on the bench for situational purposes. so now you are trying to find guys to pitch the other 23 innings and you fontenot , vietmeir, gervese, dutton, about 2 innings each, and cooper to go against a lefty.I dont trust the others in the other 15 innings. But I do think dutton and taylor are diamonds in the rough and in 2 years they will be friday and sat starters. Just my opinion
re: Can Someone Please Explain the Lincoln Riley Fascination?
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 11/7/21 at 8:14 pm to I20goon
Lincoln Riley has shown he can put an offense on the field every year, I dont think its he can't field a defense, its that any defensive player he has to get has to come from out of state ,mostly Texas. That would be like asking an lsu coach to field a defense without not one player from the state of LA. You have to go get them from other states. I think Riley can see that once oklahoma comes to sec and starts getting beat more by playing a tougher schedule, that eventually Oklahoma will start to become like Nebraska, a has been but a place in the Midwest where nobody wants to go play. And the argument between him and jimbo, jimbo has done nothing since he came to a&m.the school with the most money, some of the best facilities, talent rich state with top qb's. I think if you took Riley to a&m and jimbo to Oklahoma. A&M would be better and Oklahoma would be worse. Just my 2 cents
re: SEC Network's 16 team pod proposal lumps LSU with the Misses and A&M.
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 7/22/21 at 9:02 pm to West Bank Dan
I think it would work as long as they put the one easy team with a hard team out of the pod , TX and ark , bama and vandy , Uga and Kentucky, then the next year you get OU and Missouri, aub and tenn, flaorida and south Carolina, so you get 3 hard and easier . No different than now ,lsu still play aub, bama, fla now every year, not that much different.
re: Is it possible the LSU baseball job is not as attractive as it used to be??
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 6/17/21 at 9:31 am to GasMan
I think lsu is one of the top 5 jobs in baseball. There is alot of tradition, but when you become irrelevant for 5 or 6 years and 6 graders are now juniors and seniors they didn't grow up in the 90's and they don't see what all the fans saw. They don't see lsu like we see them. Once that ball gets rolling and you do nothing about it. You become the notre dame of baseball. If you ask their football fans they would say they are a top 5 football school, but it truth they are not, they were in the 90's. The coaches and technology has to adapt. When it comes to the stadium when you don't make upgrades fans will quit coming and the one thing lsu can always say is they have the best fans, when you have the #1 attendance for almost 25 years. That is a recruiting point, but also that means the fans deserve upgrades. They have always done their part ,now its time for lsu to show their appreciation for it and make changes to the stadium.
re: Bianco rumors just leverage?
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 6/16/21 at 4:44 pm to Lee Chatelain
You can't believe what you hear. Right now any agent who has a coach as a client should be throwing their name out there to get more money. That is a good agent. All I hear is that they hired the first person they talk to , then if they if they come for an interview and not named the coach, they think lsu got turned down. First kos at Florida, then you hear vitello at tenn, then Corbin at vandy. Then bianco at ole miss , let's go on and call in van horn at ark, and lemonis at msu , and make all the other sec schools give coaches pay raises and then go after the guy you want in the end, like mcdonnell, oconner,Godwin.why not make all the other schools spend money.

Take a man like Brian O'Connor of Virginia, 2014 vandy beat virginia,2015 virginia beat vandy, 2016 both were hosted a regional didnt make it out. 2017 both were a 2 seed in a regional. 2018 vandy 2 seed , 19 vandy won . The last 4 yrs vandy recruiting ,1,1,1,2. And Virginia was 12,21,27,17. I would rather have a guy who can do more with less. Even bianco going to supers with recruiting 35,19,2 ,35. Classes. Then you have lsu with classes of 3,6,2,4.with classes like that and we have to rely on freshman. No reason , with those types of classes you reload, not rebuild with freshman.

The only problem I have with Corbin and the pitching coach is, how much of the success comes from them and how much comes from being able to offer full scholarships which in turns brings them the best arms across the country. When your recruiting classes are # 1 for like 6 straight years and # 2 this year. I would think they should have more championships than they do.

1st. Chairbacks all the down to both foul polls please remove high school aluminum football stands down sides and back.
2nd. You can double up the suite boxes all the way down foul polls where you add the new chairbacks.
3rd. Build bullpen in outfield with some type of windows in outfield wall to see. Get off side of field like your little league, high schools dont even do that.
4th. Remove adds off of outfield wall and have a single color pad. So it doesn't look like a single a ball team in the middle of nowhere.

re: Who would you like to see at DH this weekend?
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 6/9/21 at 11:33 am to Maravich
Why not pinch hit for milazzo?and let the pitchers swing. When you go 1 for 17 , lsu has all to gain and nothing to lose, let the hellmers guy take a swing at it. What the worse he goes 0 for 3. We already use to that..if the dh is getting only about 1 or 2 hits a series then why not sure up defense at 2nd and let Arnold dh. Let beloso come in when we need someone to put the bat on the ball in later on in the game. You can always pinch hit later for whoever is playing 2nd , then let Arnold go in and they stay at dh. Or he can pinch hit for hellmers. Just my take
re: Baseball, lack of quality coaching...

This go both ways it is the coaches responsibility to make sure every person who steps on the field can bunt. How can you expect to swing a bat to hit a ball but can't stick a bat to touch a ball. It is the players responsibility to perfect his craft. I'm pretty sure when they are in the cages they hit 200 balls typically all different types of pitches. But how many practice everyday bunting 100 pitches. Practices makes perfect.now when you have to squeeze or trying to bunt for a hit , that is different. You can't control where the ball is thrown. But in a sac, if its a strike you bunt if it isn't you pull it back. But if only practicing bunting 10% of the time in the cage , you will get 10% results.

People should know that alabama runs the SEC. It is head quarters in birmingham, and pretty sure most of the people who work there went to Alabama. When you go against them they will come at you . Ole miss beat them 2 times in row and and was getting on a role. Then we know what happens there all of a sudden freeze is out. Then lsu for 8 or9 years you hear nothing. Then they beat Alabama and big recruiting class. Then all of a sudden things 8 9 years ago come up. They want orgeron gone. Now the Probst guy says stuff about them and you hear crickets, not even look into what he says. But now all you hear is what he did and lost his job. You go against the SEC mafia and you will get sanctioned and lose your job. Haha

Well as a coach and you know you need 1 of the 3 games this weekend to help you make the playoffs. Why not pitch marceaux on Sunday to give you the best chance instead of Friday night against their best starter. He should know the difference between 13 or 14 conference wins is a big deal. As a coach you do what is possible to give your team the best chance.
re: Dudy Noble Field is better than Alex Box Field
Posted by Southpaw widowmaker on 4/16/21 at 10:11 pm to Lee Chatelain
I think the problem with Alex box stadium is all the aluminum seats down the side and in the outfield. I think if they would brick it all down both sides. And the build in the outfield. The aluminum looks cheap and like what you see in high school stadiums. Also all the advertisement all over the outfield wall. I think those 2 changes would make a huge differences. Then later work on building something in the outfield,.
