We did a similar vacation is Tsavo West, Kenya. Stayed in tents, could hear the animals at night. And the darkness & stars are something to be seen.
The safari was a lot of fun too. At first going in, when you see a giraffe or zebra the driver stops, lets you take as many pics as you want. By the end of the first day they're just another zebra or giraffe. It's just whatever there are so many.

If I had to pick one it would be Alaska so far. Just spectacular!

Our recent RV trip to Alaska. We traveled up thru South Dakota making stops at Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore before heading to Glacier NP. Then on to Banff and Jasper before heading up to Whitehorse in the Yukon. We enter Alaska near Tok then headed to Fairbanks, Denali, Talkeetna & Anchorage. The Peninsula was next....Hope, Homer, Seward, Whittier, Valdez and Haines. We took the ferry from Haines to Skagway before heading back into the Yukon and BC. We entered Eastern Washington and headed west thru North Cascade NP, took the ferry from Whidbey Island to Port Townsend then to Olympic National Park. We followed the coast south thru Washington and Oregon before heading east to Idaho and Wyoming before heading back to Louisiana.......3 months &14,000 miles

We're doing a chartered catamaran in the BVIs this summer. 20 year anniversary for my wife and I and our twins graduate high school this year.

Just returned last week from a 10 day (not including travel days) trip around Iceland. Rented a camper van and toured Golden Circle, entire Ring Road, Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Reykjavik. Saw the Northern Lights on 4 nights. Did an Ice Cave tour. Saw tons of waterfalls, beautiful canyons, glaciers, moss covered lava fields, scenic beaches and picturesque mountain ranges.
My favorite vacation destination so far. Wife and I still have a several bucket list trips to take but will take a lot to top this one.

For me it would have to be Disney World. The size of some of its guests is astounding. The amount of pain killers, anti-chaffing cream and bacon grease must rival the fireworks budget. I'm convinced it is the largest gathering of mobile scooters in the world, but I still enjoy the place.
With that said, my time in Australia had some moments. The great ocean road, the penguins at phillip island, sydney harbour.

Probably Iceland in May 2021 for two unique reasons:
1. The world was just starting to open up again with the pandemic nonsense, so there were few people around.
2. Fagradalsfjall eruption. This was arguably the best eruption in modern history that could be safely viewed by tourists on the ground.
There are a lot of great spectacles in the world, but you can see almost all of them at any time - or at least seasonally. So I am going with Iceland due to the entirety of the island itself, the low crowds due to the aftermath of the pandemic, and the good fortune of seeing Fagradalsfjall at its peak.

For “wow” destinations, three places stand out from recent trips:
Bosnia and Herzegovina:
Was just there in March. Amazing trip. Sarajevo is one of the most historically concentrated cities I’ve visited. The mix of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and modern history is visible block by block, and the museums and memorial sites give very direct context. Outside the city, towns like Mostar, Travnik, and Jajce have well-preserved old quarters and scenery that’s far better than their size would suggest.
Slovenia:
My favorite country! The country is consistently impressive from end to end. The Soca Valley, Lake Bohinj, and the Julian Alps are all high-level natural areas, and even smaller towns such as Škofja Loka and Radovljica are worth time. It’s one of the most uniformly strong destinations I’ve been to — very easy to travel, very organized, and extremely scenic.
Romania:
Defined the term "cultural immersion". Bucharest has a wide range of architectural styles and a lot of recent development, but the standout area for me was Transylvania. The Carpathians, the fortified churches, and the older towns (Sibiu, Brasov, Sighisoara) make it a region with a lot of depth. Distances are longer than they look on a map, but the variety is high.

I just came back on Sunday from the best trip i've taken. I spent 14 days in Peru and did so much and left feeling like there was so much more to do.
Went to Cusco, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Rainbow Mountain, Arequipa, Colca Canyon and finished with 3 days in Lima.
Beautiful country and amazing food.
Highly recommend.

Other than my now home city of Seville, Spain, it would be Aix En Provence, France. Literally felt like I had been dropped in a fairy tale when we visited there 2 years ago.

Alaska was so fricking ridiculous. I stopped taking pics by day four. Every time you think you’ve seen the most amazing thing, there’s something more amazing around the corner. The whole place is surreal. Also, the people there are amazing. The first time I’ve been out of the South and felt like I was in the South.

Will echo this, Paris, Florence, Japan...really anything with deep history. best thing is spending the time with my family there. If i had to pick a place that totally took me by surprise was Siena.
We got lucky with crowds (none), and tripped over likely the greatest museum i have seen; Italy museum of history or some such. it was built into caves, etc....
Also, the whole town is a time capsule. Just...amazing. Not sure I would every go back as it was such and amazing one time thing...
Also, got lucky with an Airbnb in Paris on Isle de City what was on the river and built on top of roman ruins...Literally one of the birth places of western civilization
Japan is just well....Japan.
