I don't post here often, but I am looking to start vacationing more often.

What's the #1 destination you've been to that you would strongly refer other people to visit. My wife and I are beach people, so somewhere with a beach or atleast a beach nearby preferably.

On the flip side, if there's a single place you would strongly advise against visiting, what would that place be?

Everyone should see the Grand Canyon and the American Southwest.

Drive the PCH from San Diego to San Fransisco. Many stops along the way including Big Sur, Carmel, Hurst Castle etc.
We have done it twice.
Another great trip was an RV trip from Chicago to Santa Monica,Cal. on Route 66. Beginning to the end. Great way to learn about America back in the day.
For beach destinations we enjoyed Myrtle Beach. From there you can drive to Charlston and even Savannah.

Not beach, but as far as nearby destinations I couldn’t recommend Mexico City enough.

ETA: I see you’re in Atlanta. The great news is you can get to a lot of great places easily.

Melbourne Australia. Rent a car and go to the Great Ocean Road. There are several beaches you can stop along the way and the views are incredible.

I love how he said a beach nearby would be preferable so you picked literally the furthest possible destination on the planet.

That does sound like a great trip. How many days from beginning to end?

I feel live I've seen so many RV roadtrip type movies, I should definitely add this to my bucketlist.

Normandy.
Takes the beach experience to another level. The area is fantastic, the people love Americans and are happy you are there. We always stay In Bayeaux.

Where have you traveled and enjoyed? Do you have an estimated budget for a trip?

A fair interpretation, and maybe that’s what the OP meant and I was the one who misinterpreted. I wasn’t trying to be rude, it just made me chuckle.

We did it in 8 days and saw a lot of things that were very cool. I-40 is laid over some of the old Route 66 so you eat up a lot of miles the further west you go speed wise. We focused on Diners and roadside attractions so the stops were not hours long.

Since you asked about beaches, hard to beat the Amalfi Coast.

Where have you been? Do you have passports?

As a start if you're beach people I always recommend St. John. It's a very safe island with gorgeous beaches and is easy to get to.

one could spend their entire traveling days allotment west of the rocky mountain foothills and still not scratch the surface

one easy way to get into it is to visit america's national parks

Took a business trip to Portland Or. a couple of years ago. Drove from there to Mt St Helens. From there down to somewhere on the Hood river and back to Portland. Beautiful part of the country. Just have to get past the homeless camps.
