Beautiful Alpine views.

Mild summers.

Never crowded or cluttered like most touristy Euro capitals/destinations.

Went there for the first time for a conference while I was living in Amsterdam and have enjoyed every return trip there immensely.

Same for us. I don't think my wife and I have gone to the same vacation spot more than once.

I guess my "old reliable" place is NYC. I've gone visit a friend who lives there these last 3 years. That's just an extended weekend trip with the guys, not really a "vacation" per se.

I have pretty much evolved into this, actually. I mentioned NYC, Vegas, Orlando and the Rockies in an earlier post. However, nowadays I really only go to NYC and Vegas rarely and only as a one night stopover on the way to somewhere else. I haven't been to Orlando in a few years. And my trips to the Rockies are usually different areas each time.

I have grown to like the excitement and challenge of new places (especially abroad) more than the comfort of familiar spots.

Burlington and Stowe, VT and the Adirondacks in upstate NY. We go every summer for a nice get away.

Western North Carolina (Asheville or Boone/Banner Elk area) and South Carolina Low Country (Edisto, Kiawah, Harbor Island). It's awesome that either option is nice winter or summer.

Wouldn’t really call it a vacation but once or twice a year we go to Myrtle Beach for 2 or 3 night get aways in the off season; between Labor Day & Memorial Day. It is about a 3 hour drive.
We get an ocean front room & just hang out, walk on the beach, maybe see a show and try and find something good to eat.
Sometimes we’ll go to Charleston for another night or two.

Cape Cod. My parents have a house in Truro and it's the perfect getaway spot for a few days. Unfortunately, they're going to be renting it out mid-July through August, so time is limited this summer.

ETA: Suppose that my family no longer lives there, I will put Burlington on the list, too. I still head back each summer.

Where I live is touristy during the summer so the Bob Marshall Wilderness is about 2 hours away from town and is pretty vacationy for me the due to low crowds.

Blue Ridge or Ellijay GA.

Love the area. Tubing. Hiking. Some nice restaurants. Great cabin selection. 4 hours from our home.

Okaloosa or Pensacola. Both managed to maintain their laid back atmosphere while Destin and 30A went over the top.

Grand Isle. Everything I love doing is right there close to home. It's a family tradition to spend time during the summer there.
I want to get back out west to Colorado,Utah,Idaho, and Montana. My wife has never been, so I want to show her some of my old stompin grounds.
As for overseas, I want to further explore Germany and venture into Austria. That area is facisnating to me.
