Wimberly = smallest town with the biggest traffic Jams.
Gage Hotel in Marathon, Indian Lodge and Sproul Ranch in Fort Davis. There used to be a bar in the middle of Alpine that had an outdoor section. Stopped there in April one time and looking at the mountains in 3 directions above the buildings was pretty

Alpine
Marathon
and terlingua
and chinati hot springs
These places are not a weekend trip unless you plan on driving there and driving back the next day.

Harry's Tenaja, great bar. Last I heard it was up for sale. I love it down there but its too long a drive to be a weekend trip.

Wimberley Texas is where you want to go

As a local, I objectively prefer several other towns over Wimberly

Easy now, don't want to overwhelm anyone with all that insight.
New Braunfels. Lots to do/eat there and close to lots more.

I agree, Wimberley is as packed with tourists as Fredericksburg but if you haven't been to Wimberley, you will like it.
