Weekend in Savannah, Ga.

Wife and I are wanting to do a long wknd down Savannah way.
Looking for rec’s on nice hotels in downtown district. Also must see sights (Already plan on hitting the Eighth Air Force museum)
And of course some good dining spots/bars in the area.

Be extremely careful with speed near at least Dublin, GA. I got the ticket for some relatively normal speed (something like 73 in a 65, 20 years ago) that is still the most expensive speeding ticket I've ever gotten. Over $400 in 2006.

There are a number of nice hotels downtown along the riverfront. That is where I would stay.
Favorite restaurant is the Old Pink House.
Savannah is a nice city just to walk around. Plenty of small parks and squares.
We sometimes stop there for a day or two on the way to Charleston. I like Savannah but I call it Charleston Lite. It reminds me of a scaled down version of Charleston.

US 17 is a hotbed for history. Go south to St Simons and you have the colonial Christ Church settlement, and Fort Frederica. Moving north you have Fort King George in Darien. Then closer to Savannah Fort Pulaski and the old Wormsloe estate.

The Grey is a good cocktail. Goosefeathers is good breakfast. Rivers and Glen is/was good for outdoorsman, I think they closed.

Vic’s on the River and Circa 1875. Husk for brunch. Darling Oyster Bar. Lots of fun rooftop bars right on the River (Rock’s on the Roof, Top Deck, Myrtle and Rose, etc).

For dinner I like Alligator Soul, Pink House, Vic's. The Grey is good, but kinda over priced. I'm in route there right now and plan on hitting restaurant 1790 tonight. Have yet to eat there..

Don’t want to dump on your trip but Savannah has a LOT of homeless bums walking the street and needs a significant cleanup. If that sort of thing doesn’t bother you, there’s lots of pretty oak trees, architecture, and good restaurants on the river. The homeless infestation was pretty off putting for me personally. Would not go back.

Your handle reminds me of the book Lou Tepper wrote. The "drop" linebacker was a joke back then.
