I recommend you take a look at TripAdvisor. Las Vegas is not cheap so it’s best to know before you go. Eat better, less expensive food off strip. Fremont Street area is definitely worth visiting.

Will do, deltafarmer. Trying to get the lay of the land right now. Usually wait until about two weeks out to dig into TripAdvisor, once I’ve narrowed my options down. Def going to give Fremont St. a good look around.

You have access to a car? Red Rock Canyon, eat at Taco El Gordo, walk around and see the different casinos. I recommend Mad Apple and/or Michael Jackson shows.

We may have car access on our last day. Prior to that, uncertain.

Thank you for your recommendations. The MJ show sounds fun!

Which hotel are you staying at? If you are looking for very cheap eats, the Excalibur food court is probably the best priced on the Strip. Still expensive compared to other cities.

The High Roller and take a bus tour to the Hoover Dam...and take the dam tour!

I have never done the tour but its worth it just to ride out there and see it.

Walk the bridge as well

JodyPlauche, we plan to see an old friend’s son while there. If he’s burned out on the local attractions, perhaps he’d join us for a jaunt to the Dam. My partner would love to see it!

The Walrus, staying at an Airbnb. Don’t have exact location yet. Will look at that food court. Def looking for cheap food; will check it out.

(We are NOLA foodies, but I’m planning to suspend our usual expectations, since our budget is so tight. Cheap and decent are what I hope to find.)

Some off Strip places that are good or good deals.

Herbs and Rye has great steaks and a great price during happy hour. You need to make reservations and they aren't cheap, but it's a great deal. I was taken there by a local and have gone back since.

Nora's Italian is really great Italian food. It's not at all pricy for Vegas (like normal prices for great food) and a great off Strip place.

The Steakhouse at Circus Circus always gets good reviews. I've never been, but it's supposed to be sort of reasonable for what you get.

Charlie Palmer Steak offers a "Cut of the Week" deal every week. I think it's $50-60 per person and comes with sides. Not cheap, but great food for a good price.

Batista's Hole in the Wall is just off the Strip and is a kitschy, Italian place. Not as good as Nora's, but fun. You can stop by the dive bar, Stage Door on the way. They have cheap beers.

LaLadyinTx, thank you for these recs. I think I’ll be sharing them with the group, when the time comes. It’s so easy for a bunch of friends to get swept up in other considerations when deciding on dinner options, without taking finances into account. A well-cooked (rare) steak is one of my partner’s greatest pleasures, so your list is much appreciated.

Although I’m not normally a drinker, I usually imbibe (moderately) when on vacation. Finding an off-the-beaten path dive bar is an underrated pleasure when traveling. I look forward to investigating your suggestion.

Skip Battista’s. Go to Stage door and drink cheap beer.

If you want to do any shows the stagerow seats at the mad apple show are the best deal in vegas.

Been a bit since we went.. But there was a really inexpensive Food Court in the MGM. Nathan's Hot Dogs, McDonalds, the like.

If you do Fremont Street-and you should, the Mob Museum is a short walk - couple of blocks. Also a short walk is Container Park. Its's a cute little area made of storage containers with little niche shops and a commons area which has live acts sometimes - it's all free!

I REALLY enjoyed the Neon Boneyard. If you have any memories of Vegas movies from the 60s and such, all those neon signs ended up here. Pretty inexpensive, and they ask you to make a reservation to keep the crowds down. (It was not crowded at all when we went.)

If you’re staying at an Airbnb near the strip it’s probably in a shitty area so keep that in mind. Mob museum, pinball museum, and container park should be up your alley.

Awesome tip, diat150! The friend who’s organizing mentioned the possibility of a second show. I’ll pass this info along to him.

robchand58, thanks for chiming in. My SO has a thing for shipping containers. Always designing potential future projects with them in mind. Container Park is at the top of the Must-See list now!

The Mob Museum and Neon Boneyard were not on my radar - thanks for putting them there. The Boneyard sounds especially cool!

3oliv3, I really need to get the location of the Airbnb from my friend. Thanks for the heads up about potential problems!

I agree about those three attractions. They all sound perfectly aligned with our interests!
