Looking to take a mini vacation at the end of this month to meet up with family who lives in Charlotte, NC. Both parties are willing to meet somewhere in the middle as we will be traveling from Gretna. Looking for outdoor activities and just a place to relax and unwind after the loss of my father in law. A place with decent food is a plus but not necessary. Is Lake Guntersville area any good o aother lakes around that area? Thanks for any suggestions.

Blue Ridge, GA or maybe Bryson City, NC.

If you want decent food look into Asheville.

Maybe even consider Greenville, SC.

All of these places are so much closer to Charlotte than Gretna. Somewhat between them would be a lake house in Alabama or perhaps Callaway gardens.

Take the family to ‘Dega for the Geico 500. It’s damn near the exact midpoint between Charlotte and Gretna.

That whole NE Alabama area would be perfect for relaxing: a very low-key; not too crowded area with many beautiful natural features. A lot of stuff is on top of or right by Lookout Mountain (which is more of a big plateau). DeSoto State Park, Mentone; Ft. Payne has a nice small town downtown, Little River Canyon, etc. There's trails, and lots of waterfalls, and golf, and boating. Lots of cabins and places to rent. We went up there for a cousin's wedding several years back and enjoyed it immensely. My daughter (now grown and on her own) went up there for an extended weekend last month; she loves it and finds the place a perfect place to unwind.

Plus it really is pretty much equidistant between Charlotte and New Orleans. Some of these people saying Charleston or Hilton Head need to look at a map....
