The lounge in Houston was full because they oversold $50 passes.

I have a Delta platinum card but not the purple platinum card that gets you in the lounge for free. I was going to fly out on Jet Blue and they canceled so I had to book Delta. They had a pop up for $200 off the tickets with a Amex card approval. So I applied. Got it used it to buy tickets. Then.... haven't flown Delta since.

I mostly fly American and United.
I think I need a united card next.

If it were me I'd be getting Amex or a Chase Sapphire branded card. MR and UR points are very flexible where if you get an airline (or hotel) branded card you are tied into that brand.

Amex Platinum Benefits

If you make use of all the benefits you can easily offset the $695 yearly fee.

Absolutely. Hell I think I may make the fee back just by eating at the Delta Skylounge on layovers rather than dropping $40-50 at one of the airport restaurants each trip.

But they also reimbursed my global entry fee and Clear fee too.

It’s been at $695 for a while. I’m hoping they Jack it up $2-300 a year to discourage all the people that only travel a few times a year but love to get hammered in the lounge to drop the card

I was on a flight and sat next to someone who told me how she and and 5 family members play the Platinum card game. She is the primary card holder and has 5 cards added. The 6 of them split the annual fee and then all have access to lounges like Delta and Centurion.

Those extra cards are $175 each.

1 card plus 5 extras split evenly is still almost $300 a year. So still less expensive, but hardly cheap depending on how much they fly.

We pay for an extra card, but just 1. While its a nice perk, we try to fly direct and there are times where we don't even go in the club if we only have 20 minutes before boarding starts. And sometimes it makes sense to just pay the extra $50 for family if we have a good bit of a wait.

The amount of misinformation on the travel forum astounds me. The Platinum Card is $175/yr for three cards and an additional $175 for each card after that.

It costs the same amount for you to pay for one card as it does to pay for 3. You could add two more people for "free"

AMEX fee is waived for military

Blows my mind so many in the service don’t use it

But to be fair a charge card is extremely dangerous for a wild jr enlisted

Even if they get approved

They need to be.

This seems like airports need more VIP clubs , un-tapped market.
