A bit of a long story…

I have the Chase United Club card so that makes me a United Club “member”.

I had a Delta flight from Salt Lake City to Nashville with a stop in Minneapolis. My layover was at 5:15pm.

The next day, at 5:00pm I have a United flight from Nashville to Chicago.

I checked in for my United flight to get my boarding pass so I could use my United Club for my two hour layover in Minneapolis.

Not so fast my friend! Because my ticket wasn’t departing from or landing in Minneapolis I was denied.

Great for crowd control I suppose - but I can’t imagine this is frequent. The lady was super nice and almost granted an exception but ultimately I was denied.

Not a big deal as I enjoyed a nice meal at Chili’s on the company dime, but still a little annoying to pay $500+ for a credit card and get denied in this circumstance.

That’s not exclusive to United.

You can’t access an airline club when you aren’t flying with that airline. Delta does the same thing.

Yeah. I’m not getting the rant here. They always check your itinerary.

I am flying with United within 24 hours and checked in though.

If I were only flying Delta or outside of 24 hours of my United flight I’d be more understanding.

Delta Skyclub won’t let you in more than 3 hours before your departure.

I’m sorry bud. This is a rarity, but I have to side with the airline on this one.

United is 24 hours I believe. (Same day boarding pass/checked-in)

Yeah I’m not too torn up about it. I like United so it’s all good.

I really don’t fly United so I don’t know their policy. But I’d be really surprised if they allow people into the club 24 hours before their scheduled flight.

Again, not saying you’re wrong. It just seems like an odd policy.

Delta is really strict about their 3 hour policy.

To be honest, a 3 or 4 hour policy makes way more sense but I just looked up United to be sure. It’s just a same day boarding pass.

They need to be.

Out of pure curiosity, does it specify “same day” versus “24-hour”?

It doesn’t. I’m sure Delta’s club is the same-way … you enter by scanning your boarding pass. My assumption is as long as you can check-in for your flight you can access the United Club assuming you meet all other requirements.

Get a Sapphire Reserve, Platinum or X card and use priority pass lounges. Sapphire also gets you restaurants in a lot of airports.

I have that too. To be honest I didn’t even think of Priority Pass.

Priority Pass has really been diminished though. They have started restricting access (and rightfully so) plus it’s always in the international terminal and quite the hike to get there.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of the priority pass lounges. Centurion is the go-to for me with the new rules limiting guests plus when I fly international it’s out of Miami or JFK. For those flights it’s Centurion or the upper tier international business class lounge.

There are arrivals lounges in European and Asian airports that *could* have covered that, but I've run into similar. Flew Biz with family to FRA, but because our connecting flight to CDG was in Economy (in 2.5 hours), I could only get into the lounge with a single guest (due to *A gold), not the full compliment of 3 family members, even though we'd all just flown biz from IAH.

While I haven't looked for an arrivals lounge in the US, I would not expect that to be present in anything other than coastal airports that serve mostly premium business travelers.

I am a wee bit confused why if you're flying out 24 hours later, why you would want to be airside in the airport at MSP for more than five seconds longer than necessary. That kind of stuff, especially in uninteresting locales like MSP are why airport hotels with room service exist. You're in SNN, SEA, or similar, the beer can be worth it. But MSP?

MSP was just a connector for Nashville.

I fly United 90% of the time but the prices to go from SLC to BNA were outrageous. This is business travel so I couldn’t splurge the extra to stay United.

I am United from BNA to home base at ORD.

Someone else mentioned Centurion Clubs. Get the American Express for $499 annually. They look at a boarding pass from any airline, your AMEX card and ID and you are in with a guest if you have one.

Only problem with Centurion Clubs is they aren’t in as many airports.
