Hi.
I am coming to the US in a few weeks and I am still debating whether to change my itenerary.
What are your top 5 cities you would recommend to visit?

Where are you coming from and what area of the us are you coming to?

What do you like to see, do, etc.?
Will you be driving a rental car or relying on Uber or our (usually crappy) public transportation systems?

1. New York City - No brainer
2. Miami
3. Chicago
4. San Francisco
5. New Orleans
ETA: I omitted Boston (you're coming from England and I find lots of similarities) and Los Angeles (the "city" of LA never did anything for me. Beautiful scenery though)
You may consider swapping one (Miami perhaps) with Seattle?

I will be there for 3 weeks but the cities I keep mulling over are Vegas, San Diego and Dallas. I can only really visit two of these.
I have already visited the east coast so looking at other suggestions.
I will be visiting New Orleans because I am going to a LSU game.
I will be travelling solo and will not have a car.

Cheers.
I have been to Boston which was great. Very expensive though.
I am actually flying into Miami before heading to New Orleans. I was beginning to regret it but no choice now. Flight is booked.
I am just not sure on Vegas. I have heard it is very tacky and not sure if it is the type of place to visit solo.

I wouldn't call it "tacky" but I also wouldn't enjoy it solo.
San Diego is a good spot if that's on your list. Beautiful area. You might want to rent a car though to drive to the different areas there though.

Dear God no. Drop that one and go to Vegas and San Diego.

Meh, it's an adult playground. You can eat and drink very well there. You can relax and lounge all day or you can go all out/party/gamble. It really does offer a lot.
Also, you can rent a car and head out to Red Red Canyon.

Glad you enjoyed your time in Boston. It is expensive, though. I hear you on that.

To be honest, I really didn't like Vegas. I found it very cheesy and touristy. Not to completely discourage you from going, just giving my opinion.

Thanks.
OK, here is my itenerary that can’t really be changed:
Miami - New Orleans - San Francisco - Los Angeles.
Between New Orleans and San Francisco I am booked to visit Vegas and San Diego but I can still change these if I wish.
Why the negativity towards Dallas? It looks interesting.

my top 4:
seattle for overall beauty of area
new orleans for unique culture/food
san diego for perfect weather
miami for nightlife/women
my #5 would be between san fran and new york.
i love the foodie scene of san fran and the culture/nightlife of new york....but the in your face liberalism for both is a major turn off.

Yeah Boston was cool. Only had 3 nights but would love to visit again some day. Watching a Redsox game live was a great experience.
It was the game last September that went to the 18th innings or something so had to leave before the finish.
Having a pint in the Cheers bar was cool to do as well.

Another one for Seattle. Interesting.
Was the rainy season post earlier for Seattle?
I think I will stick with San Diego. Which leaves one of possibly Dallas, Vegas, Seattle?

It's a rather insular place. Really spread out as well.
There are much better places to go alone and without a car. Hell, even San Antonio would be a bit more interesting.
But, I might consider, in going between New Orleans and San Francisco, to hit up somewhere like the Colorado Rockies to sort of break up the trip.

We met a couple from Australia when we were in Hawaii and this came up. They'd never been stateside.
My list was:
NYC
San Fran
DC
Seattle
Chicago
Of course speaking of the greater metro areas and surrounding environs.

Interesting lists everyone. Thanks.
I have also been to Chicago I should add.
Southwest do not do direct flights between New Orleans and Seattle so that makes Seattle difficult. I would like to keep to Southwest flights so I can just change my
original booking.
It looks like sticking with Vegas may be the better option even though I have went a bit cold on the idea.
