Just for giggles I checked VRBO to see if there were any last minute things left starting the Saturday before Easter for about 5 nights. That's literally all there is for that entire stretch of beach.

How insanely crowded is it going to be down there? Seems almost miserable.

We were looking around at some places for Memorial Day week and some dates later in June.
I have never seen the prices anything like this.

Was talking to a friend who owns a condo and last month he was uploading his prices on VRBO he thought he should use. The price leveling suggestion tool VRBO uses kept telling him for all time ranges from May though September to increase prices. He did it and still ended up getting bookings for every week during this time.

I had to book a last minute house about 3 weeks ago because our initial plans fell through and we found a great place on Alligator Point, but looked basically from Gulf Shores to Alligator Point and from north of Jacksonville up to around Charleston and there were maybe 10 houses available.

We should basically have the beach to ourselves where our house is, but I was blown away with how little was available. And the 6-7 bedroom houses left were like $2k+ a night.

This might make the headache of international travel I'm attempting worth it. Everything domestic may be a shitshow.

Spring break
I've heard it's really starting to book up for May into July
People haven't been on vacation in a year and the snowbirds missed their annual trip south for the winter

Rates are going to be outrageous

This is what I told my wife. I can't think of anywhere this summer in the U.S. worth visiting that won't be a total mess other than if I pack up my tent and head to the middle of the woods.

Went camping in July and there were people everywhere. Gotta go in by seaplane to get away.

Yep. And the stores/bars/restaurants all along the gulf coast will be a circus because of not enough staff. Not just Spring Break, but all of early summer I'm sure.

That's what we've opted for. Tulum of July 4th and Mexico/somewhere in the Caribbean in June. Prices aren't crazy and lots of 4th night free offers.

Everything we looked at domestic was outrageous.

I saw a resort in Turks and Caicos offering their 4,600sq ft penthouse beach view for $1,300 a night.

That's a steal.

The beach sucks during peak season, especially in Orange Beach. Rednecks, tattoos, and Bama flags everywhere. No thanks.

That's a big part. Plus as mentioned, people that didn't really get to take a trip last year are ready to hit the road.

Agree. Sounds like this year is gonna be a hard pass for me. The redneck Riviera it’s going to be full crowds it sounds like from Easter to the end of the summer.

Yep. I hate going in the summer, but my wife’s family has been doing an annual family trip since before I met her. I’m only going for a long weekend this June. We are all the way down towards the end of Ft Morgan this year so maybe it won’t be so crowded.

We just got back from St. Croix. Rented a very nice house for 5 nights. $3K including all the damn fees. Split it with another couple. Started doing the math, and we were really close to what we'd have spent if we went to 30A. Between the insane pricing of condos, the crazy beach chair/umbrella prices, traffic, and the crowds EVERYWHERE, the islands look better and better everyday.
