It's been years since I was there, but 2 things remain unchanged. 1st Las Casuelas mexican restaurant has fantastic food, can't go wrong there. 2nd a large portion of the men there are sweeter than gingerbread.

August
Brutally hot. I don’t give a crap if it is a dry heat, 115 ain’t no joke. Was there in late September and it was unbelievably hot. Chilled pool helped but I couldn’t image playing golf, hiking, or anything in the sun. Nights were nice.

We went to a 60s style dinner show. I can find the name if you want. Would recommend if that’s of any interest.

Otherwise we were at the resort. Never made it to Joshua Tree. Just too hot, plus we were only there 3 nights I think.

By the way, there is a great Murder, She Wrote episode set in Palm Springs. Highly recommend. The Error of Her Ways, S6/E4. Elliot Gould plays the homicide detective.

FIFY

Also, if you like ugly arse wind mills, there are tons of them ruining the landscape.
If the San Andreas fault decides to cook off and move its plates, you are toast.

I've gone in August 2-3 times, and this is the truth, except even the pool hardly helps. I felt like a bug under a magnifying glass in my pool chair.

Anyway yes. True. Lots of gays, but lots of awesome mid century architecture and funky places to hang out mimicking that style. The gays tend to really know what they're doing with that sort of thing, though.

I enjoyed the visit but honestly expected a lot more after all the years reading and hearing about the place. We had planned 4 days but left after 3 because we just had done everything in few days and there other areas we wanted to see. Big let down

Ride the gondola to the top of the mountain. Big temperature difference.
Nice restaurant up there and cool hiking trails with nice views.

Will be hot in August. Palm Desert area is among my favorite places in US. Id say go hiking but not in August. Find a pool.

Dont miss the opportunity to belly up to the bar at the Trixie Motel...

Though you will have to be staying there to get poolside!
