It is getting busier but still fairly quiet. With the National Seashore there, one can still get away.
Weekend traffic to/from Island can be a PITA. If you stay on the island, it can be mostly avoided.
September should be reasonable as schools are back in.

So I've been seeing a lot of St.George/Cape San Blas mentions. Same area that surround Apalachicola Bay.
Next stop down going east is Carrabelle Beach. I just found this little history nugget that Carrabelle Beach was used as a Fort in the 1940s
Pretty wild. The whole area is really cool and off the beaten path of PCB, Destin etc...
You can stay at Cape San Blas and visit Mexico Beach, Cape San Blas, St. George Island, Apalachicola, Port St. Joe and Carrabelle Beach with ease.

We stayed at pt st Joe a couple of times. Very quiet and peaceful and San blas is like 20 minutes away

Bump. We are staying in Mexico Beach right now, and absolutely loving it. Panama City close enough, beaches uncrowded even with it being Fall Break, and a lot of folks moved here from Destin and other places bc of the storm. Will definitely be back.
Believe it or not, had fantastic poboys at a little spot in Panama City. The lady that owns it and runs it makes her own sourdough poboy rolls every morning. I can hear the F&D nerds screaming now, but the bread becomes an integral part of the sandwich. So tasty, and I’m ok that it didn’t explode biting into it.
Everything made fresh, we did our usual shrimp and roast beef order and split, I’d stick them up against any I’ve ever had. Almost drank the last sip of roast beef gravy, it was the real deal.

Yeah, that area and the protected area around Navarre are my favorite stretches. I've been going there for 50 years.
I really mourn what's happened to Destin. Just too much development.

The Perdido Key Johnson Beach side is even more remote.

Cape San Blas is definitely away from the tourist vibe. Also probably one of the best beaches to collect sea shells after hightide. Not a bad ride past Panama City on 98.

Grayton Beach is in between the dualing madness of Destin and 30-A. Only houses in that community--no condos or hotels. Beaches are not crazy even in the summer. There's also the Grayton Beach State Park next to it with a stretch of beach that is completely peaceful.
