It is getting busier but still fairly quiet. With the National Seashore there, one can still get away.
Weekend traffic to/from Island can be a PITA. If you stay on the island, it can be mostly avoided.
September should be reasonable as schools are back in.

So I've been seeing a lot of St.George/Cape San Blas mentions. Same area that surround Apalachicola Bay.
Next stop down going east is Carrabelle Beach. I just found this little history nugget that Carrabelle Beach was used as a Fort in the 1940s
Pretty wild. The whole area is really cool and off the beaten path of PCB, Destin etc...
You can stay at Cape San Blas and visit Mexico Beach, Cape San Blas, St. George Island, Apalachicola, Port St. Joe and Carrabelle Beach with ease.

We stayed at pt st Joe a couple of times. Very quiet and peaceful and San blas is like 20 minutes away
