Looking for a house on a lake within 6-8 hours of New Orleans. My parents want a place where they can sit on dock or porch to watch grandkids swim. A nearby marina to rent a pontoon boat or jet skis would be nice but not a necessity. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I can't speak for lakes in Louisiana or to the east, but there is Lake Conroe (north of Houston), Lake McQueeney (west of Houston), and some lakes in Austin that might have what you're looking for.

We rented a house just below Canyon Lake on the guadalupe river last year that was great for all of this. swam in the river and did some fishing, then took the boat out on the lake.

The Arkansas lake areas are about 2 years from jumping the shark

Heber Springs is our spot but anywhere around there is wonderful for kids and grandparents. I will admit it’s closer to 9 hours than 6

In Texas- Lake Palestine, Lake Cypress Springs, Lake Bob Sandlin, Lake Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend, and Cedar Creek Lake are the lakes I’d look into.

Lake Conroe is nice, but can get very busy.

Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, AR. You can get a house ON the lake, unlike some other lakes, and there are at least two boat rental places (Kahoona Bay and Hot Springs Marina). There are also plenty of restaurants and a bit of things to do at night that you would not be able to do in a more remote area.
