I know NOLA has been on the OT every day for how bad it's gotten, and I haven't been in 5 years.

We will be passing through in March on our way to Lake Charles and my kids (13 and 11) have never been.

Given the current conditions would you be ok with stopping for a few days?

Was thinking the usual stuff -Streetcar to the zoo, tours, ghost tour, WW2 Museum.

Just be back in your hotel room by 9:00 and you should be fine.

lol yes confusing. Heading to meet friends in the Fl panhandle, coming back on I10 through NOLA on the way to a family reunion in LC. Then back to Dallas

Was just there for almost a week with my 12 and 13 yr old. I did not feel unsafe once. My mom lives in the Quarter, so my kids walked over to Cafe Dumond for beignets every morning. We walked all over the Quarter each day and into the early evening. We walked down to the Roosevelt to see the lights one night and over to Herbsaint on another. We took the streetcar Uptown and visited friends in the Garden District. Go and have fun, you'll be fine.

Central Grocery is closed but they sell their muffulettas at the shitty liquor store next door, they are as great as ever.

Most crowded places after dark. Stay inside hotels and restaurants. Uber anywhere more than 6 blocks and you will be fine.

I didn't see any. It is a different city from when I last lived there. The projects by Armstrong Park are gone and have nice condos in their place. We walked from St Phillip to the Warehouse District and down Canal Street some at night and I never felt unsafe. We were in the Garden District at night, and I was not worried at all. My mom and kids walked to a movie at Canal Place and returned around 1030pm.

We were never really out walking around past 11pm but I never felt unsafe.

My advice is to stay where other people are. Don’t be walking down streets or alleys where you’re the only person. Also, park your car in a garage and not a lot.

You’ll probably be fine, but the surge in crime is definitely real. I don’t feel uncomfortable when I go out, but I’m also very aware and cognizant of the fact that anything can happen.

That’s all good stuff, but you could also make almost a day out of a visit to City Park.
Look it up as I don’t feel like typing much, but note that they have a Cafe Du Monde there

Why on earth would you listen to the OT? Common sense in all things and you will be fine. Aquarium, DDay Museums, depends how old your kids are. Audubon Zoom.

of course it is
New Orleans is great, have fun and use your common sense. The zoo, aquarium and museum are world class. Don’t do tours

I went to the French Quarter in March 2021 with the wife and it was fine back then. My wife isn’t from Louisiana, so she’s unaware of the crime statistics which allowed her to venture in with a clean pallet, and she had an absolute blast! I would recommend it.

Listen to the people who live there. The OT is filled with people bred to hate New Orleans no matter what.

Zoo and Aquarium are good suggestions. Go to Cafe de Monde. Childrens Museum in City Park is nice. Take them to a nice lunch somewhere. Get poboys another day. French Quarter is fine during the day but will get raunchy on Bourbon at night.
