Our kids have been to >20 countries and <10 states. When living abroad, we've tried to do lots of travel to make the most of our time. It made us realize how little we traveled in the US, so we started making plans to see more of our own country when we move back.
It was harder to travel domestically since we had less vacation time, and every holiday and vacation was occupied with local stuff (birthdays, games, local family stuff). But I think we're pretty committed now.

I am also at 31 countries (I think -- depends on how you count Czechoslovakia), and I've only been to 27 states.

Czechia (Been) and Slovakia (love to go).

Nothing worse than everybody else dictating your days off more than you do. I'm keeping a strong hand on this to keep it under control.

Anywho, nothing crazy.

27 states
12 Countries

Add Hawaii next month.
Japan next year.

Where in Japan? We went to Tokyo and Kyoto in October. I can recommend a great studio apartment on top of a coffee shop in Akasaka that would be perfect for you and your wife. We loved it.

Tokyo and Kyoto for sure. Trying to figure out the in between once the flights are booked.

Could be Nara/Osaka/Hakone or another small town.

Would definitely be interested in checking out the apartment.

Very underrated . I'm making another side trip to Japan on the way back from Phillipines, but I wish I had time to go to Kyoto or Osaka

Fun topic to see what others have done!

Mine:

Countries: 14
States: 24

Sure I’m missing some New England states I’ve stopped in on a road trip but only counted ones I was positive about visiting.

We travel to a few of the same places often (MT, FL, MX) but plan to hit new places every couple years at least. In my 20s so we have time. Visiting all 50 states is a goal. Knew there’d be a lot of globetrotters on here.

Mexico
USA
Canada
Belize
Jamaica

Bahamas
St Lucia
Monaco
Vatican
Italy
Malta

How do we count things such territories like Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands for these purposes, as “countries”? What about Washington DC? Is that a “State” for purposes of this exercise?
