Northern Italy Honeymoon Recommendations

Hey everyone, long time lurker and first time poster here!
My fiancé(no pics) and I are getting married in July and will be going to Italy for our honeymoon.
We have stops in Florence, Ortisei, Varenna, Montessero, and Milan. We will spend 2 - 3 days in each location except for Milan which is just one night.
I have booked all travel including plane and train tickets as well as hotels months ago. Now I am looking into activities and restaurants at each location to really narrow down what we are going to do while over there.
I was curious if any of the more experienced travelers on this board have any must do's they would recommend at any of our stops. Thanks in advance for any advice!

One thing I would spend more than one night in Milan. It’s a great city, not to mention viewing the last supper painting.

If you’re in Milan you should do this. It’s kind of a hassle buying the timed entry ticket, but if you can’t snag one online when they become available you can pay a scalper’s premium with one of the tour companies. Well worth it imo.

I would go see something at La Scala in Milan. In July, there is an opera and ballet depending on what night you’re there. They occasionally give smaller matinee performances in the lobby but I don’t see any in July. There are also performances at the Duomo and other churches.
We also enjoyed a nice northern Italian/german meal in the Navigli canal district. I can find the restaurant if interested.
There have been several recent threads re Lake Como. Search for Varenna options there.

Excellent lunch restaurant in Florence is trattoria la Casalinga

Since you are already booked there's little flexibility. Try to fit in a day trip out of Milan to Alpine lakes Maggiori or Como.

As I understand the OP, he’s doing 2-3 days in Varrena on lake Como.

Yes I am! I'm more so looking for recommendations on the best things to do/see and good places to eat in each location.
For example, in Ortisei I'm looking at hiking the Seceda Ridgeline and Alpe di Susi. In Florence we are visiting the Uffizi and the Duomo.
Other than that, I really have not nailed anything specific down. I was curious if anyone had any stand out experiences they would recommend from their travels to any of these locations.

A couple suggestions, and I'll start by saying for my honeymoon I went to Oktoberfest in Germany and then road tripped down to Venice, Italy and back.
When is your wedding? What is your order of how you are visiting?
I don't recognize some of those names.
But generally speaking the wedding and weak of is very exhausting especially for the bride. So if you are going immediately after your wedding, which I did, then you don't want to do a ton right after. She will likely want to rest a little.
My point, is give your self some time. Don't plan too much.
Also, I always highly recommend Canyoning if you are adventurous and like the outdoors. I don't have specific suggestions, we did it at Lake Garda and it was incredible.

I’d recommend renting a boat for a day on the lake. Driver or no. It’s a beautiful place.

In Florence it's definitely worth it to see The David, and the Ufizzi Galleries were pretty great. If I had been in better shape I also probably would have climbed the Dome on the Cathedral

Are yall going to hike around and see the Dolomites?

Yes, in Ortisei we are hiking the Seceda Ridgeline and Alpe di Susi. It's my understanding that these are the two most recommended hikes in the area to appreciate the beauty of the Dolomites.

I would second renting a boat for Lake Como as well as when in Florence at the Duomo climbing to the upper level. The view of the Cathedral as well as Florence from the upper walk way is great.

Varenna
Curious about how you chose Varenna over Bellagio.
I’m looking at them.

Also interested in this.

I’ve stayed in both. Bellagio is somewhat bigger with more to do I guess. Train station in Varenna. They’re a short ferry ride from each other. Ferry was a bit of a madhouse the last time we were there and that was in early May before the real crowds show up.
Happy to answer any questions.

You hit the nail on the head here! We chose Varenna because that is where the train station is. We are travelling by train to all of our destinations. Hoping the train rides add to the experience instead of making the travel feel like time lost.

I can only speak of the train from Milan to Varenna (and back). The views are very pretty as you get towards the lake/mtns.
